I walked into school the next day even more afraid of what I was going to have to face.
"Dahlia!"
I look around to see such a familiar face coming towards me. After yesterday though, I dont think I could speak to him. He was probably one of the people who I had trusted most. I speed up my pace slightly, hurrying past the class I was supposed to be in. I wasnt safe in there. The only place he couldnt go was the toilets.
"Dahlia, please dont be like this, I want to talk to you! Slow down for christsake!"
"What Ben?!" I say coldly, opening up the bathroom door "Come to humiliate me some more? Lie to me? Make another bet? Just leave me alone!"
"Dahlia please!" I feel his hand clasp around my wrist and he pushes me inside the toilets and presses his finger to my lips. I shrug him off abruptly though he still has my arm.
"What Leo said yesterday, it wasnt true. I never lied to you, there was no bet. I just....didnt want to say anything in front of Leo. He could ruin me"
"Ruin you? Ben I have been ruined by him for the past 5 years! If you really appreciated me, you would of said something."
His face drops. He knew I was right. He would have stood up for me if he really cared.
"Listen, I'm not asking for you to take me back. I left you, I was afraid - I know which is nothing compared to what you have been through and it was a real douchey thing to do, but if you ever, ever need someone to talk to, just call me" he sighs and holds out his arms in front of me. Reluctantly I lean in towards him, accepting his hug. The strength in it made me miss the old days with him and I was glad he had stopped me. He may not be trustworthy but it was nice to know he cared.
I give him one last hug before he leaves and goes off to his own lesson. I was already 10 minutes late, but seeing Ben had put me in a good mood, or at least a better mood than before.
I put three loud knocks onto the door of my maths class and the teacher from inside shouts out for me to enter. She makes some snotty comment about it being nice of me to join them as I walk in and all eyes avert to me while I placed my things on the desk and settle down in my seat.
"Oh, Doxy, where were you this morning, you came in so smoothly that you barely even noticed the loo roll stuck to your tacky shoes" I hear a voice say from behind me. I turn my head to look at the girl, and she smirks down at my feet and I look down too. The whole class erupts into a chaos of laughter and I feel my cheeks start to burn.
"I'm Amber by the way" she says politely, giving me a fake smile and holding out her hand. "Ugh, so rude Doxy, I thought you had more manners than that-"
"Stop calling me a doxy." I growl, knocking her stationary onto the floor and slamming my fist down on her desk. She leans back slightly startled, her plumps lipsticked lips parted in a perfect 'O'.
"WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON BACK THERE!?"
I turn in my seat to face our professor at the front. "She the one calling me a doxy" I mutter, picking up my pen and engraving the word 'die' into the wood.
"You will have to speak english girl because I was not born in your era! Amber, explain yourself immediately else both of you will be spending the rest of your week in my classroom picking the gum off the tables with your bare hands!"
Theres a silence for while. Everyone is looking at Amber now except for me. I am still engraving.
"Doxy is another word for whore, Miss. Dahlia Grey is big. Fat. Whore-"
I hated her. I barely knew her and I still hated her. I thought Leo was as worse as it got, but I was wrong. Amber was the worse, by far.
