A dark cloud hovers over us and heavy splats of rain start to fall rapidly onto the windscreen. The teething sound of the windscreen wipers fill the empty silence that has taken over the car. The police that were chasing us had now disappeared yet Beau is still going way over the speed limit. I don't want to remind him. He hasn't said anything since we've escaped the station. I begin to tap my fingers on the dash board and I catch his face twinge. I get a kick out of his reaction and drum my fingers louder.
"Dahlia!"
"Woah, sorry" I retort crossing my arms tightly across my chest. "Whats got your knickers in a twist..."
"Oh don't be so immature" he spits. What have I done now.
"Immature? You haven't spoken to me since we got in the car!" I sit higher up in my chair to get within eye line of his face.
"Oh and I'm the only one who is capable enough of making conversation now am I? As far I'm aware they took some tests, not your fucking voice Dahlia!"
Why is he being like this? Only an hour ago it was all hugs and kisses. I slap him hard on the back of his wrist.
"WHAT THE FUCK DAHLIA!"
"WHAT IS YOU'RE PROBLEM BEAU!? YOU SAY I'M BEING IMMATURE!"
He starts to grip the steering wheel so tight his knuckles had turned a milky white. He then turns violently into the hedge and cuts the engine.
"Get out."
"W..ww...w...w" I can barely get my words out my mouth
"I said get out."
"Beau why won''t you tell me whats wrong?" I plea. The whole time his eyes are looking straight ahead, not at me. He has almost glazed over. I get out and slam the door angrily behind me and stand on the verge of the wet grass. The engine starts again and he hesitates before accelerating. Tears are mixing with the rain that is wetting my face and my clothes are already sticking to my cold skin.
"BEAU!" I cry "BEAU PLEASE!"
Theres a telephone box only a few meters away. I trudge slowly to the shelter and look longingly at the numbers. My dad had always told me to keep spare pennies with me for times in deep need.
"Mum?"
"Dahlia, where are you? Are you okay?"
"Mum, can you come and get me....." my nose is running and I don't even have a tissue to wipe my face. I don't know what to feel. Beau has just left with on the side of the road and driven off.
"Oh dear, of course Dahlia! Where are you? I'll be there right away!" There's a flash of blue lights in the distance and hold the phone closer to my face.
"Forget that mum......the police are here....I'll be home soon....."
"Okay, I love you Dahlia" I can hear her frown through the other side of the phone
"Yeah" I mumble and hang up. The patrol cars pull up only the side of the road and I walk into the open air.
"Miss Dahlia Gray?" I nod and walk towards the officer, his torch shining my way. He takes of his jacket and wraps around my shoulders.
"I'd like to go home please" I say. He smiles and opens the door for me to get in. Inside is warm and it makes me think of the warmth of Beau's arms. I lean my head against the window and watch the tears of rain trickles down the glass. The officer gets in the car to turns around heading back the way Beau and I had originally came. The streets lights flash over the top of us creating trippy patterns along the road. I let my eyes shut and slowly but surely I fall asleep.
When I wake up again we're outside my house.
