Vito's POV::

I look out the window of the hospital room. I haven't been able to see my baby and River has been sleeping ever since I got here. No one that has come in has explained to me why my child isn't in here with us.
"Vito," a scratchy voice says from the bed. I turn around and see River awake, but still looking exhausted. I stand and make my way to her.
"I'm so sorry I wasn't here with you. Is he okay?" She nods, her eyes red. She gestures for me to lean down and kiss her. My hand brushes against her abdomen. She flinches, pulling back. My brows knit together.
"They had to do a c-section. Um, he was low, but for some reason I wasn't dilating enough. He's fine, but they said they were going to be doing tests all night so their keeping one of those...egg looking things until morning."
"I love you," I say. She grins, looking drowsy.
"What happened?" She asks, pulling me closer to her. I lay on the edge of the bed, pulling her to my chest.
"Its all over now," I say. She nods, knowing what I mean. "Your birth mother, she's still alive. I couldn't kill her." Her green eyes widen.
"Why not?" It almost sounds like she wanted her dead.
"She looked too much like you, like what you'll look like at forty five. And she didn't choose to be involved in all this gang shit, she just wanted him," I explain. Her hands fiddle with the collar of my shirt.
"But he's gone right?" I nod.
"Good." She loves herself closer and presses her lips against my neck, taking my hand. I don't understand how she cab be with me while knowing I just got done murdering her father and other people. I've always wondered how she can look past that so easily.
The door opens, revealing her parents. They look like they just crawled out of bed and put clothes on. They stop in their tracks when they see me. River nuzzles her head further into my neck, holding onto me as she tries to get more sleep.
"So you missed the birth of your son," her dad says. Of course he had to say something.
"I was busy. It won't happen again." I run my hand down her arm, trying to sooth her.
"I doubt it." River sits up faster than was okay for her. She squeezes her eyes shut in pain.
"Can you please stop. He's here now. He was busy and all that matters now is that he's here," she says. They look at each other, not sure what to say. Her mother opens the door just as there's a soft knock. A nurse walks in with a bundle in her arms. I stand up.
"I take it your the father?" She asks. I nod, trying to see my son. "You'll be able to hold him shortly, just after he's fed. We've been giving him bottles throughout the night, but we suggest breast feeding. If you don't choose to go that rout-"
"I'll try it," she says. The nurse places him in her arms. She smiles down at him, her eyes watering. "Mom, dad, can you leave for a little bit?" They nod and leave. The nurse helps River get in the position and help the baby.
"There he goes," the nurse says. "Does it hurt?"
"A little, but as long as he's-ow-eating." She gives us a small smile and walks out. I walk over and look down at him. "Ca-can you not watch. Sorry, its just a little...odd. I have to get used to this."
"Its fine," I say, sitting down on the edge. "Your so beautiful."
"I feel far from it right now."
"I know, which is why I felt the need to remind you," I say. She blushes, looking down at him.
"He's so cute. We still have to come up with a name." After a few minutes of silence, he eventually stops at eating and falls asleep. She leans over and hands him to me. I attempt at hokfung him but the damn thing damn near slips out of my arms. "Cradle his head."
"Alaric?"
"Sounds too ancient." I smile over at her. "I was thinking about Esteban Vito Reign." I look down at him, saying the name over and over again in my head. I smile.
"I love it."
