Take A Chance

               Vito's POV::
    
    Finn pulls himself up on the bar one more fine before jumping down. I brush my hair out of my face, taking deep breaths.
    "What happened to you?" He asks. I narrow my eyes. "Don't look at me like that. After you want to go get that girl you've been off." I sit down on the bench.
    "I was going to claim her." His eyes widen. "I couldn't do it. I want her to be able to live her life before she gets stuck in this one," I tell him. I stand back up and grab two weights. 
    "I can't believe you were going to do that. You like her?" I let my arms drop, hesitating with my answer. "Ohh you have a crush in her." I shake my head at her, lifting again.
    "In order to like her, I would have to know her. The only thing I know is that she was raked by Luis and his men." He shrugs.
   "You should take a chance," he tells me. "What's the worse that could happen if you two go on a date?"
    "Oh I don't know...a lot," I tell him. He groans.
    "You always so everyone for everyone else, even your damn annoying ass dog-"
    "Don't come at my dog."
    "Sorry. Its time you do something for yourself," he says. I set the weights down and stretch out my arms.
    "We can't do anything for ourselves without thinking about what could happen."

     Tanner and I sit on my bed with a bowl of popcorn between us as we watch TV. His eyes are nearly closing due to do boredom. I lay the teat of the way down and grab his hand. He looks down at me with a soft smile.
     "How do you feel today?" He asks.
     "A lot better than usual actually. I feel a little more calm," I tell him. It's the truth. After yesterday something in me switched. I don't know if it was Vito telling me had protect me or what, I don't feel as tense. "How's your mom?" Him and I met through her, because she was my therapist.
         "She's...her," he says with a chuckle. My phone buzzes to notify me that someone has messaged me. I pick it up and see Vito's contact.
     We need to talk.
   After that he adds his address. Even though he doesn't seem like he would ever harm me, I still tense.
     "I have go somewhere. Its an emergency," I tell Tanner. He stands up, fixing his light blue polo shirt.
   "Okay then. I'll see you on Thursday?" He asks. I nod, forcing a nervous smile at him.

     I get out of my car and make my way up to his front door. Nerves build up as I knock on the door. What if he sent that to the wrong person? What if I somehow did something wrong g and don't know? What if I'm in danger again? Him opening the door interrupts my thoughts.
    "Come in," he says. No hello? Okay. I brush past him, listing to my fast heart beat in my ears. The small dog walks in, wagging her little poffy tail. I bend down and pet her. She spins around, still wagging her tail wildly. "She usually hides when people she's not used to come in."
   I stand back up and wipe my hands on my jacket. "What was so important?" I ask. He sits down on his couch, gesturing for me to sit; when I do I keep a distance.
    "Its nothing really," he says. I release a relieved breath when though I'm very confused now. "I was just wondering if you would want to maybe...I don't know...um, if you want to-" he trails off again, seeming to get lost in his thoughts. "Are you single?" He blurts out. My eyes widen in surprise.
    "Yeah, I am." He nods, rubbing his hands together nervously.
   "I'm going to fuck up again," he whispers to himself. "Do you want to come over for dinner tomorrow? As a date?" He rushes out. 
     My mind goes into complete blank. Did he really just ask me that? Really? I'm not happy, flattered, or excited; but I'm also not upset or scared. Something about him being so nervous about asking was...cute?
     "Don't you have a girlfriend to make dinner for?" I ask, not thinking clearly.
    "Totally, that's why I was going to fucking claim you yesterday and am asking you out." My cheeks turn red.
    "Sorry, um...sure yeah, tha-that would be nice?" Why did that have to come out as a question?
    "Thank you."
   "What?"
   "Not-nothing."

   Did I really just thank her for saying she'd have a date with me?
