So here I was. Sitting at the edge of the gym pool waiting for my name to be called. What would I do once Coach Zak said for me to come up? Maybe I could hide..... or run... or.....
"Mallory Waterhill?" Oh great. He called me! As I'm walking up to the front of the pool, I hear Jake snicker at me. Ugh I hate Jake. He has always picked on me.
" Are you ready Mal? Remember it's diving day today. And this time, no chickening out like last time". Of course I wasn't ready. I'm never ready for water. I've hated water since I was born. My mother hates it too.
"Coach... I don't feel good. Could I skip today?"
Phew saved it!
"Mal you can't hide from water forever. Besides your father was a professional swimmer, you know".
Well looks like I didn't save it. "Coach,
for reals this time! I really don't feel good!"
Saved it again!
"Mal, no, this is the last time. Now go get on that diving board without a word!"
Looks like I didn't save it... As I climb up the stairs I hear my classmates laughing at me. Why am I always picked on. The only friends I have are Tessa, Jenny, and Mark. And they are all super popular. Unlike me... I think
about this as I climb up the last of the latter. Then I'm there. I'm at the peak of the board. I hesitate for a moment. Then as soon as I'm ready to jump ( or as ready as I could be) Coach Zak tells me to stop and come down.
Saved!
"Mallory you are being checked out... again... See you next week Mal. Have a good weekend".
You bet I will! Once again, Mom saves the day!
