I watch the people, I mean mermaids, swim around us going in and out of big, bright buildings. Everyone has a different colored tail. It's so beautiful. I see young and old people singing and dancing. Its like a dream.
"Hey Mallory, which one is your house?"
"Oh! MY house? Right... ummm.... right here".
"Really? You live in the restrooms? Ha! "
"Oh.. I was joking. Yep that's actually where I live". I point up to the tallest building under the sea.
"Oh, so you are royal?"
"Oh umm yes. That's totally 100% my house. Yup MY house".
"Alright. I hope to see you later, Miss Mallory". He starts to swim away but then turns around and smiles at me. I smile back. Then I swim inside.
"Hello? Is someone here? Anyone?"
"Hi.." I hear a quiet voice peep from inside. I look around but see no one.
"Hey, can you come out so I can see you?" The lights flip on and I see a huge spiral staircase leading up into even more staircases. It is the biggest building I've ever seen. Then, I see the small voice. It is a young girl, about the age of 9, with a golden pink tail.
"You seem familiar. What's your name?"
"Mallory. And yours?"
"Ohara. Welcome to the castle of Ra".
So now I know what town I'm in.
"Thank you," I exit the castle and look up. Its nearly sunrise! Oh no! I decide to go and find Brady and ask him to take me back to shore. I swim around frantically looking when I suddenly stop. I see my mother. As a mermaid. How does she always know when I need help?
"Mallory! Oh Mallory! You scared me to death! Come quickly". I follow her. As we head back to shore, my mother tells me that I am a mermaid and so is she. Our grandmother was too.
"But, Mom, how do you know..."
"When you're in trouble? Ha. Only motherly instincts". She seems only slightly upset. So I tell her about Brady helping me and about Ohara the princess. I notice that my mothers tail is also golden like Ohara. In fact.... it looks almost exactly the same. I decide that I won't ask her about it now.
"So mom, I think that people look beautiful underwater. But I'm so confused. I mean , how did we even turn into mermaids? How come scientists haven't found us if the buildings are so big and tall? Mom?"
I turn around and she is gone. Um mom? Where did you go?"
