Chapter 14

I'm 16 now. Henry is growing a beard and Tyran is too. My blonde hair is down to my waist and the wind blows it in my face often.Tyran allows me to go wherever on the boat now. I guess he trusts me to not run away. He would change his mind if he knew my plan. Henry asked me if I would meet him on the top deck tonight. I wonder what he is going to say. I guess he just wants to chat. I am really homesick and I miss Brady and my mom. I wonder where they are. Do they miss me?

I'm walking up the wooden steps when I hear Henry's voice.

"Hey Mallory."

"Hi Henry. So you wanted to meet me?"

"Yeah. I needed to ask you something. But let's go up top first". Henry added. I follow him to the deck. He sits down on the bench closest to the dark ocean. I do the same and put my arms in my lap.

"So what's up?" I ask trying to sound cool.

"Mallory, you need to escape. Tyran is going to kill you and use your powers to find your mom."

"What? How? Why? I don't even know what my powers are yet!"

"But Tyran does. You were his daughter so he knows a lot about you and your mom."

"Well, what are they?"

"Your eyes change colors to your mood. They also show fear and what you might want the most. Your eyes show pictures and videos of things. It is pretty cool to watch."

"What! Really? Why didn't you tell me Henry."

"I thought you knew."

"Well, what are they doing now?"

"They are showing a picture of a boy, maybe our age. He has brown hair, green eyes, freckles, and he is swimming towards a girl, Oh! It's you! And you guys are... kissing? That's odd...."

"Oh..." I look away from Henry's eyes and I feel embarrassed because the boy was Brady. I guess I wanted to kiss him... I didn't know it though.

"Who.. who was that boy?"

"He is just a friend. Well, I'm not sure if we are friends now."

"Oh what happened?"

"Tyran happened."

"Right. I'm really sorry about that."

"Henry it isn't your fault."

"I know. Hey can I ask you something?"

"Yeah what?"

"Do you want to go out with me sometime?" Henry asks. I feel so embarrassed. Henry is such a great guy but I can't even see us together.

"Henry... I like you I really do.. but.."

He interrupts," Maybe this will change your mind." He reaches over and touches my face. He leans in and gives me a kiss on the lips. It doesn't last long because I pull away.

"Henry i.. I can't right now!" I yell and I run back down into the low deck. I grab my pillow, the one Stella sewed me, And I cry into it. Henrys affection towards me is going to make jumping off the ship a lot harder than I wanted it to be.
