"Monster?" I asked looking between my parents.
Both my so-called parents exchanged worried looks, then slowly tried to change the subject.
"Your sister Sarah found out first." my mother said hoping that would that would be enough of a conversation change.
"No, I don't care about why they hate me, I get that they hate me because of your guy's action, but a monster? What do you mean my father is a monster?" I practically yelled. No more detours, I was getting answers.
"Your father isn't like us." my mother started, thinking that solved all my questions.
"Abusive?" I croaked out.
"No human." My father cut in, looking pained at my abusive comment.
"Which is why you need to leave now. Your coming of age and after tonight you arent safe or safe to be around." my mother said.
"But where am I to go? I have no family, money or even friends, so it's not like I can get a hotel or crash at a friends." I said starting to get irritated. They had made my life a living hell if it wasn't them it was my siblings or even classmates.
"We will help you. We have a small house up north for you, it's not in our name but a fake one. At the house, there is everything you need, money, food, clothes and much more. In the main bedroom, there is a safe room, the code is 868. A number you need to remember. Before midnight you must lock your self in that safe room and chain yourself to the walls." Mother said like it was nothing to worry about.
"What are you talking about? Chain myself to the walls? What am I?"I bellowed.
"We don't know, all we know is that you aren't safe to be around and they will come for you." my dad said sadly.
"Come for me?" I whispered.
Again they exchanged worries stares but didn't answer.
"Its time Shay, we must hurry." my mom said, grabbing my arm and pulling me through the house and out the front door.
"But what about my things?" I asked. I hadn't even packed any of my things.
"Everything of yours is already in the truck, don't worry just drive. There is a GPS all set up on the truck dash, just push the start button and follow the directions. It's a seven-hour drive to the location, you will get there at eleven if you leave now and don't stop. Once you get there, you need to pull the truck around back and park it in the garage. Hide it! You have one hour before, before, before I don't know what. But there is a key under the flower pot at the end of the porch, there are five pots, it's the middle one. Once your inside you must go directly to the safe room. You must not contact us, someone will trace the call, just remember it's not safe, for you or us. And never come back, Now go!" My mother spoke fast, trying to get every last detail in.
I sat looking at my parents one last time before driving off. Tears in my eyes. Before I could shut the door to leave, my mother leaned in and hugged me like my life depended on it. The tears finally fell, as my heart ached from the one thing I always wanted, love. I looked away from my mother to see my dad walking quickly down the driveway towards the truck. My mother released me and my father pulled me out of the truck and into his arms. My arms wrapping around his waist as I hugged him back, crying harder.
When he finally let me go, he whispered, "I'm so sorry Shay, we will always love you and regret ever hurting you. I hope one day you can forgive us."
I smiled weakly, nodding my head I got back into the truck. Starting the truck up I looked at my crying parents one last time before pressing start on the GPS and leaving.
