Hey everyone! Sorry it's been a year! I've had a very busy life this past year. Having a baby girl! Lilia Charlotte! And starting my own bakery! I hope you enjoy my next few chapters!!
The moon seemed brighter as I ran East through what seemed to be a never ending Forrest. Branches kept snagging at my clothing and hair. But I kept going! Occasionally I'd stop and check the time, this last phone time check the time read 11:30 and I still hadn't found a road. I was starting to panic. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it to the house my mother had mentioned in time.
Just when I was starting to loose hope, my feet hit gravel of a road. Struggling to remember the directions from the gps. I remembered that it was another two miles north from the main road. I couldn't see the main road so I assumed i had to be at least if not over a mile away from the main road. So I started my run again, this time north. Hoping the moonlight would lighten a driveway, another road maybe even a mail box.
The run seemed to never end, just when I started to think I wasn't even on the right road, a drive way appeared behind some over grown bushes. Pulling my phone back out I checked the address that I typed into my phone from the gps before leaving the car behind. The house number was 806. And it matched the mail box number. I couldn't see a house but you could barely make out the drive way because of the over grown bushes that lined the driveway. Pushing my way through the bushes I followed the drive up hill to a house. A house appeared behind some more over grown bushes and even some low hanging trees. The moonlight lit up some of the house and made it gleam white like the moon. I wouldn't be able to tell the color of the house until morning when the sun was out but for now getting into the safe room was my number one priority, not the color of the house I would be staying in for I don't even know how long.
Pulling out my phone again to check the time again, it read 5 mins til 12. I needed to hurry. Running up the steps I found the flowers pots half way down the house. Pulling the middle pot up I felt in the dark for a key but there was nothing there. Flipping the pot over I was relieved to see the key taped to the bottom of the flower pot. Running back to the door, I struggled to unlock the door. Once the door was open, I felt around for a light switch, I couldn't find this damn safe room stumbling over who knows what in the dark.
Once the lights were on, I was shocked to find a completely empty room. Not just empty but completely needing redone. There was no furniture, carpet or even hard wood floors. The walls weren't even walls. You could see all the two by fours, and wiring that made up the walls. The floors were covered in dirt, rocks and leaves and the spots that weren't covered you could make out the ply wood . Which is what is normally under all of the normal flooring.(carpet, padding, hard wood flooring) it really made me depressed to think that my mother thought this was livable for her own daughter.
The safe room wasn't hard to find. It was the only thing that was actually maintained. The door was made out of a steel and seemed rather strong. There was multiple locks on both sides of the door. Which I don't know made me worry, because really why would I need to lock myself in. But the room had freshly painted walls. The floor was beautiful but was better that what was out in the other rooms. It was cement and that had been painted a warm gray. There was a cot in the farthest corner, along with a small side table that had a few books placed on it, along with a tiny book lamp. On the opposite wall was two huge anchors, that were connected to a set of chains. Remembering my mother's words; get to the safe room, lock your self in and chain your self up.
Pulling my phone back out I checked the time at the same time as I started locking the multiple locks on the steel door. My phone read 11:58. I had ran out of time. Shaking and taking a deep breath, I slapped the the cuffs around each of my wrists slumped down to the floor. My head resting on the wall. I grabbed my phone one last time to see the time, 11:59.12:00
