"Anything. Anything you want."
Her eyes shone. "You mean it?"
"You got it sugar, you called me didn't ya?"
She nodded. "I want to be pretty. Can you do that?"
"Sure thing kid, I can do it all!" Easy. This was too easy. She fell for it! Hook line and sinker! "But there's something you gotta do first."
"What is it?" there was the faintest trace of fear in her eyes.
"I never deal for free. We gotta have a price. Nothing's free."
"Oh, of course." she nodded. "What do you want?"
"Nothin' much. Just....YOUR HEART!"
First there was a look of surprise. Then of horror, then nothing. Why? Because he hand was plunged into her own chest. Horrifying sucking sounds came from her chest as her hand moved underneath. Finally, with a squelching sound her hand came free, with her heart sitting in the palm.
"Doncha know." Cypher said softly as he plucked the heart from her hand. "You don't deal with demons. Or whatever I am."
The heart was flawless. Good. It would fetch a good price. This was what he lived for. Deals, deals, nothing but deals. It was his job.
He looked around one last time as he faded from the plane. He couldn't exist in that particular dimension. He came from somewhere much darker, much weirder.
Reality ceased to matter in the place he called home. Rules had to end somewhere didn't they? In the homeworld there was nothing but insanity. Anything illogical belonged there. Time had no meaning and gravity was useless. Every so often some of the insanity would leak into the physical world and incredible events would happen.
They thought frogs falling from the sky was science huh?
Cypher and other like him couldn't just enter the physical world. In mindscapes and the homeworld they were free to do whatever they wanted. Dreams were an excellent meeting ground for clients, and were also delicious.
But the physical world was another story. They couldn't enter without a vessel, which involved a lot of work, or they had to be summoned.
Lots of people were willing to summon. Who didn't want to get their wildest dream? With a few candles, a little blood and the right words, anything could be summoned.
But getting clients desperate enough to deal? That was a little harder. Human minds were like open doors. Cypher could go wherever he wanted. Now contacting the clients, that was a little trickier. The first thing to do was set up a nice little interview in their dreams. Step two, convince them it wasn't a dream and get into the physical world.
Final step? Make some deals, get paid, AND SEND THE WORLD ON A FAST TRACK TOWARDS ARMAGEDDON!
Every deal that was made pushed the world one bit closer to snapping. A prophet had long sense fortold of an event that would end the world. Cypher was one of the proud bringers of this apocolypse. The dead would walk, the cows would sing, IT WAS GONNA BE GREAT!
The border between worlds would shatter, it was thin enough as is, and when it did all the insanity would spread into the physical world. Cypher would take a physical form, something handsome enough to contain his awesomeness, it was gonna be tough to find the perfect one but it would happen, AND THEN IT WAS GONNA BE A PARTY!
