By the time I was dropped home I had mixed feelings for the whole relationship with Damon. One part of me felt bad that he was attempting to be a friendly neighbour but the other side of me wanted to keep my barriers up so he couldn't get close to me.
It's okay Connie, after Christmas break you won't have to see his stupid face everyday.
Hey maybe I'll even try find a place to move out, I hate living here anyway, it's like hell especially with Paul around constantly ready to call me out for something.
"Connie darling! Can you please come and help me out a second?" I look up from my book putting my pencil down inside it before leaving it on the sofa. I walk into the kitchen watching as mum places a chicken down on the side.
"Honey, do you mind chopping up some veggies?" I go to the fridge and pull out some carrots and a broccoli.
"Why did you buy so much?" I ask placing them down on a chopping board whilst fetching a knife. I open the packet up before taking them to the sink to wash.
"Well Hazel and I thought it would be great to have a roast tonight altogether as a family before going into town to see them turn the lights on in town!" I puke in my mouth.
"Mum why!?" I complain aggressively cutting the carrots.
"Hazel's one of my closest friends, see spending all that time with your dad made you forget almost everything about me..." She squeezes my shoulder before fetching an oven glove and putting the chicken in.
"I stayed with dad because I was getting bullied, I didn't mean to forget..." I roll my eyes as mum mumbles something inaudible.
"Well now you get to experience towns Christmas lights being turned on, when you were little you used to love it!" I stop cutting vegetables and look at mum. "You, Damon and Jessica used to help collect all the letters to Santa, maybe you can do that again this year?" I stay quiet not too fond of the idea. I just go back to chopping aggressively.
Not even seconds later the doorbell rang making both mum and I turn our heads to the front door. I grunt and resume and mum runs to the door awkwardly. "Hello!" I hear her scream. God middle aged women. "Come in! Would you like tea?"
"Oh yes please, thank you!" I hear footsteps appear behind me so I turn my head to see Hazel and Kieth walking in. "Hello Connie, how are you?" I smile softly.
"Good thanks-"
"Connie do you mind making 4 teas for me please?" Mum walks everyone into the living room. Okay that's fine don't tell me who wants milk and sugar. I put down the knife I was using and boil the kettle getting out four cups. I decide to butt in and ask who wanted what.
"Who's having tea?" I ask before looking up. I notice Jessica smile up at me and raise her hand along with Kieth, Hazel and some random girl that was sat in my house. Damon was sat with her. "Do you want sugar or milk or like just the tea bag?" I rudely ask unintentionally. Kieth laughs.
"Just a splash or milk please." He replies. A splash, define a splash?
"I'll take three sugars please," the random girl answers. You mean diabetes? I shrug her off and look at Hazel and Jessica.
"One sugar for the both of us, thank you Connie!" Jessica replies gratefully. I nod and stumble out of the room and back to the kitchen. I make all the teas including one for myself, no sugar, no milk, like my body and soul.
"Here you go." I hand Hazel and Kieth their teas before going back into the kitchen to fetch the other two. I awkwardly walk over to the three of them talking. "Jessica..." She thanks me before I turn to the other girl. "Uh..?"
"Justine, uhh thanks." I awkwardly smile and hand her tea.
"You feeling better now Connie?" I look at Damon confused, he just licks his lips waiting for a reply.
"Always have been." I walk away and back to the kitchen. I finish chopping vegetables and take my tea upstairs to my room, sighing and sitting on my bed completely dazed from what had just happened. For a while I decided to just go on my phone and draw. I mean that was until someone decided to barge into my room.
"Hi Connie!" The girl from downstairs peaks her head through the door startling me, "uhm Damon says you study art I was wondering if I could have a sneaky look at some of it?" I blink at her, plastering on a fake smile.
I get off my bed to crouch down and pull out a large folder of my uni work. She walks in following Damon awkwardly as I just hand it to them with a blank expression.
"Justine is in a band also, she was just looking to see if you could do some album art for her band?" She sets her tea down and takes a seat on the ground looking through my work.
"Well I don't want to waste your time, but all my work is portraiture and shit to do with the human body, I don't do graphic design if that's what you want." I bluntly say getting a little annoyed that she thought it was a good idea to barge in here.
"Oh no this is actually great, I like it." She smiles up at me as I just snort taking a sip from my tea and going back onto my phone. "What about this, I like how this works if it was on an album cover." I look at her vaguely.
"Yeah that would be cool." Damon quietly says, I look up to see him staring at me.
"Uhh I'd rather you didn't used my uni work-"
"Could you make a copy?" I shake my head, "are you interested at all?"
"No." She sighs and puts my work back.
"That's okay, um I think food will be ready soon anyway, if you want to come down?"
"In a bit." They both nod and leave. I push my work back under my bed annoyed.
"She has a bit of an attitude." I scoff at Justine talking about my outside my door. Hunny it's not even a bit of an attitude.
- A/N: A little bit of a filler chapter cause I didn't want to just get rid of Justine. She's actually gonna make this book super dramatic I'm so ready. -
