ONE DAY LATER...

"RRIINNNNNNNNNNGGGGG!"

The alarm clock rang, and Kitt yawned, got out of bed, and stretched his arms. Ferox woke up and tumbled out of her sheets. Her heart palpitated at first from hearing the blaring noise, but she took a few deep breaths and eased her nerves.

Indeed, the older girl had been placed in a room with three boisterous eleven-year-old boys. Trad and Christina had allowed it because Ferox and Valt insisted on being roomed together (they already shared a bedroom at home). Not wanting to be stuck with strangers, Rantaro immediately complained that he had sleepovers with Ferox and Valt so he hoped to stick with them. Finally, Kitt announced that he desired to get to know Valt, Ferox, and Rantaro better.

Despite the alarm, Rantaro and Valt were still asleep.

"How can they sleep through this? It's like they're under a spell," Kitt said and adjusted his green Santa hat. He turned off the alarm clock and said, "Maybe we should ask for new roommates."

"Allow me to awaken them, Kitt," Ferox said. She moved in between Rantaro and Valt's beds before throwing up her arms and yelling, "WAKE UP, GENTLEMEN!"

"AHHHHHH!" Rantaro and Valt screeched and toppled out of their beds.

Satisfied by her accomplishment, Ferox placed her hands on her hips. Her other achievements included collaborating with Daigo to prank Wakiya with creepy spiders. Wakiya would shriek and flail violently whenever they hung spiders in front of his face. Last night, Ferox had also drawn an exaggerated caricature of Free de la Hoya in her sketchbook. His nose was turned up, and his dark eyes glared at the viewer. Ferox had colored it and written "ASSHOLE" in giant red letters.

"Morning, you both already up?" Valt said sleepily, and he rolled on his back.

"What's up? Is the snooze cruise over?" Rantaro asked, rubbing his eyes.

Ferox smiled warmly and said, "I'm not your alarm clock. Let's go. Breakfast should be ready about now, right?"

"It should be," Kitt confirmed.

The cafeteria was a lovely and heart-warming place with its high, well-kept ceilings to the sweet, wafting aroma of food. Ferox could tell that BC Sol was a popular, affluent team due to its modern blading facilities and contemporary dorms. She frowned, suspecting that part of BC Sol's success must be that the best blader in the world led the team.

As Ferox, Rantaro, Valt, and Kitt moved to retrieve breakfast, Ange Lopez, Kitt's mother and the cafeteria lady, smiled as Valt greeted, "Hey, there. How's it going?"

Ferox scanned the cafeteria and was relieved to find that Free was not present. She would have had difficulty not challenging him to a battle otherwise; she sighed as she thought about his insult again. Ferox had believed that she was a tougher individual--immune to vitriols or whatever--yet Free had hurt her dearly. Free had brought her back to the moment Lui had glared at her with icy purple eyes and attacked her biggest insecurities as a blader.

They're all losers, Ferox, Zmaj cut in. You'll feel better after we train to beat Free and his Fafnir!

"Smells good!" Rantaro said, staring at the array of food choices. Ferox nodded her head absentmindedly; she was too distracted to focus on breakfast, but she had to pretend that she was okay. Rantaro, Valt, and Kitt were too young for her to confide in her troubles.

"Well, thank you! You can call me Ange. We're all family here, so why not get in the habit of using each other's names?" Ange replied with a broad smile.
