I quickly opened my eyes and sat up. I looked around to see an empty, dark void around me. There was nothing but darkness to be seen for miles and miles. Out of the darkness came a brilliant glare of light. From the light, a woman walked towards me. She was draped in beautiful golden robes and had a gentle smile. "Hello young Lucien" she said with the soothing voice of an angel. It was a voice I recognized, it was the one who warned me. "Where am I?" I asked "what is going on?" I was panicked and confused. She put her hand on my shoulder, and I was suddenly put at ease.
"Allow me to explain" she said. "I am what you humans would call a goddess, I am the being that grants mystical powers to humans. I give powers to those who I believe are worthy. Although, I have a counterpart. A vile god who grants powers randomly to any human he thinks will do something funny or interesting for him. I gave you the power of creation to aid in the fight against him and the evil his disciples create"
I nodded in understanding, and I asked "can you explain my power a little more? How does it work?" She nodded on response. "The power of creation requires that you have drawn the design of what you want to create with that pencil. In addition, you also have to concentrate on the exact composition of what you are creating. You are also limited by the time it takes to create the item and the amount of energy it takes out of you"
I listened to her words and commited them to memory. I had a question though. "But what about the basketball and sword I created? I didn't have to do those things and it was relatively easy to create them." She laughed and said "did you think you did that on your own? I helped you."
After that I was more or less clear on my power, my mission, and what had happened, but I had one question "why me?" I asked. "Why out of all the people you could have given this power to did you choose me?" She looked at me curiously "well shouldn't the answer be obvious?" She asked rhetorically "you may seem cold and uncaring but you have a very kind and righteous soul. In addition your skill set perfectly matches the power, for you are an artist and a genius"
I almost cried, that was the nicest thing anyone had ever said to me aside from maybe some things amelia has said. She smiled "you have my blessing now. do what you will with this power, but I will always have faith in you to do the right thing."
She tapped my forehead and I woke up again, this time in my bed, in the middle of the night, and accompanied by Amelia and Amanda. Amelia saw me wake up "Amanda he's awake!" She shouted to her, waking her up. Amanda and Amelia saw me and ran to violently hug me. "Dont ever scare us like that again luce" Amanda said, almost crying.
After that little reunion, they asked for a complete explanation. I repeated what the goddess had told me and they nodded in understanding but with faces of disbelief. I couldn't blame them. After all, there was a lot for them to accept. I wasn't sure what our future was going to look like but what I did know was that I would stop that vile god if it was the last thing I ever did.
Life proceded like normal for the next month aside from the fact that I started training. Luckily I could do so in my house as my parents were always gone on buisiness. I more or less live alone with the support of the money that my parents send. I got a job about 2 months ago so they wouldn't have to send me as much money but they still do anyway. I assume they feel bad for never being around but I dont care, being mad won't change anything so I never really get mad at them for it.
Training proved diffucult. Summoning an object, even simple ones were hard and took lots of energy. It took intense focus and understanding which if I didn't have for even a second, the creation could backfire and hurt me. However, I did discover that I could enchance the items I create with magic and give it magical effects. For example, I could create a simple longsword and give it the ability to create fire. But this took even more energy from me and proved to be innefective for me to use in combat.
The only thing I could summon quickly, consistently, and effectively is the same longsword I originally used and a suit of armor I designed that gives me a boost in speed and strength. The boost is minor enough that it doesn't completely drain me. I had built up my ability to summon these by doing it over and over again every day, to make it easier. However, the hardest part about my power is that whenever I create something it leaves the page, and I have to redraw it before I can use it again.
Despite an attack not appearing to happen anytime soon and the fact that there was no warning from the goddess, I still made sure to always leave the house with a drawing of the sword and armor in my sketchbook, and one spring day, this precaution finally paid off...
