BTS won the award for Top Social Artist of the second year in a row and later performed their new song, "Fake Love" for the first time with a thunderous reception.
Earlier, when Taylor Swift was announced as the Top Female Artist, Nova—the only female member of BTS—ran up and adorably hugged her. Taylor then gave Nova a little shout-out, saying that the two of them have been fans of each other for a long time and that she's a fantastic representation of female artists. Nova is, quote Taylor, "so confident and so proud, and overall a truly wonderful and amazing young woman."
As many ARMYs know, Nova knows how to ballroom dance. She and one of her fellow members, RM, surprised all of us by performing a quickstep on stage while singing a condensed version of Royal Crown Revue's "Barflies at the Beach," and they totally killed it.
Some of the BTS's highlights were also made off stage and before they even arrived. Fans were lined up way before the band showed up, shouting "BTS!" chants that could be heard for blocks down the Las Vegas Strip. They drove social media wild with their outfits the minute they hit the red carpet. Their variety of fashion choices was striking, ranging from dressier fits to Hawaiian shirts and urban wear. It all speaks to the confidence that initially launched the boys into international stardom. And Taylor Swift, whose appearance was a total surprise, took it up a notch and joined the Kpop superstars for an instantly iconic backstage pic during the show.
