Chapter One - Attractive
This is the third time which my father has told me he has found a new bodyguard.
The first time, he just wanted to scold me on my decision to allow one of our girl groups, Splintered, to have a break and see their families.
Apparently that wasn't my decision to make.
The girls had just released two mini albums within 3 months. Two of four members have families who live in another country.
They were extremely successful with both comebacks so I thought it would only be kind to give them a four week break.
The second time, he just wanted to discuss changes in my own schedule.
I think he forgets that he handed the company over to me four years ago now.
At the time I was the youngest CEO in our country. I was only 17 years old when he made the announcement. Of course I had to wait until I was 19 and had graduated school before I officially took over.
My father has a chronic heart disorder. The stress of this job could literally kill him.
So his doctor advised him to resign and now I am the CEO.
We have a love-hate relationship. Its more hate then love, on both halves.
He doesn't agree with how I run the company and has even had the nerve to tell me that I have ruined it.
He does his best to be a back seat driver when it comes to running this place. Still, when I am sick or injured he seems to generally care and I do worry about his condition.
"Get your feet off the desk. You are not a child, Jaehyun" My beloved father has arrived.
"What are you going to yell at me for today?" I ask him as I slowly remove my feet from the desk and place them on the floor.
"I have found a new bodyguard. One who will be fully capable to take over where dear Wonshik left off." He explains and I find myself raising a brow in surprise.
Four moths ago, someone attempted to assassinate me but of course they failed. My bodyguard, Wonshik, took the bullet instead and he passed away during surgery.
He was my first bodyguard and he was amazing at his job. I was able to talk with him about ordinary things whenever we were alone. He and I were good friends at the same time as having our work status' which always separated us.
I miss him terribly.
"It's been quite a while since he died. Don't you think you've taken your time to find someone else?" I question harshly.
Father is lucky that no one else has tried to kill me. That incident four months ago was a first in four years. I can easily say that I am not hated by the public.
"I apologise for it taking so long but you need to understand that it is really difficult to find someone right for the job."
"What's his name?" As I ask this he hands me a brown file.
I open it to see a resume alongside extra details about the new guard.
"Lee Taeyong. He passed all of our tests with flying colours and has the appropriate attitude to take up this job. But at the end of the day you are the one who gets to accept or decline him."
"Lee Taeyong" I mutter his name as I scan through his files. He seems to have outstanding results through the tests which my father mentioned before.
His photo almost looks like one taken for school except he wears a suit and has a soft smile upon his face as he stares at the camera.
I close the file and throw it onto my desk.
"Send him in."
Father nods and opens the door to my office once more. He steps out for a moment but he doesn't come back in.
Instead a young man with pale hair steps inside, closing the door behind him.
Immediately he bends over, his body making a perfect 90 degree angle.
"Hello, my name is Lee Taeyong. I am your new bodyguard. I hope we can work together well." He speaks in a slightly rushed tone, his nerves seem to be taking a hold of him.
I notice his hands tightly holding onto the fabric of his jacket as he waits for instruction. I smirk slightly at the sight.
"Please, stand" I tell him and he is quick to straighten his posture.
"I have one question to ask before confirming you new job here."
"Ask away sir." His gaze meets mine and I hold it. I have to admit he is attractive.
I don't think he is suited to this line of work. He is too thin. The nerves he has from just meeting his new boss are at a crazy level. imagine what he'd be like if someone had a gun pointed at my head?
"First, don't call me sir. Just Jaehyun is fine" I tell him and he corrects himself.
"Ask away Jaehyun." He breaks the eye contact and looks somewhere else.
"Why do you think you are capable to protect me?"
He seems to have to think briefly of an appropriate answer. There is a lot of pressure, this could cost him his job.
"I have no past experience of guarding anyone yet I am qualified to keep you safe. I have mastered most of the martial arts and I can do self defence. I am fit and am able to run for great distances if needed. I am intelligent enough to make split second decisions. Jaehyun, I am ready to die for you if that means it will keep you alive."
"Hm" I stand from my seat and walk behind the desk, over to the window behind it. Placing my hands into my pockets I glance at the passing traffic.
"I don't believe you are suited to this job. You are extremely nervous and you're only meeting me. What would you be like in a situation where I have a gun pointed to my head?"
He remains quiet.
"To be honest, Taeyong, you are attractive but I don't like you." Turning to face him, I watch as his gaze falls to the ground.
"But I will hire you. I'm interested to see what you are like once employed."
He immediately bows again and proceeds to thank me.
"Thank you Sir—Jaehyun. You won't regret this."
"Won't I?" I take my seat once more and place my feet on the desk.
"Lets hope for your sake that I don't."
