Chapter Twenty-Five - Sacrifice

I hoped that Yuta, Doyoung and Johnny wouldn't notice Taeyong's absence from the courtroom as I came back to sit with them.

But of course, Yuta noticed.

"Where did your boyfriend go?" He asks me quietly and I do my best to keep a calm facade.

"He is no longer my boyfriend or my bodyguard" I tell him and he looks shocked.

"What? What did I miss?"

"He made a deal with my father which involved him convincing me to lie. He broke my trust" My voice wavers as I recall what's happened.

Before Yuta has a chance to respond, the judge enters the room.

Yuta gently rests his hand on my thigh, squeezing it reassuringly.

A mere hour ago, I would've pushed him away. But right now I need this. I need him to hold me together for the second part of this trial.

The first part of the talking is completely muffled until Jungwoo calls out the next witness to testify.

"Nakamoto Yuta."

Yuta seems to be shocked, he wasn't expecting to be called today.

He smiles at me softly as he heads up to the witness stand.
After taking an oath, Jungwoo begins questioning him.

"Tell us, what is you relationship with Jaehyun?"

"I'm his friend."

"Have you two been closer in the past?"

"We dated for a year."

"Only a year? Why did you break up?"

"I had to go back to Japan as my father was going to die. He was young and didn't want to have a long distance relationship."

"His age was?"

"19."

"That is very young indeed. Especially considering how he was the CEO of this huge company."

Jungwoo chuckles lowly and it makes me feel sick. I never thought I could hate a lawyer so much.

"Were you close with Nara?"

"She used to adore me." Yuta smiles fondly at the memory.

It's true. Nara used to always been hanging out for Yuta to come over. Even before we started dating, she always favoured him out of all of my friends.

"Did you two ever see each other when Jaehyun wasn't around?"

Yuta pauses as he slowly gazes over at me.

I can tell that he knows what is coming.

"A couple of times we did."

"Does Jaehyun know of this?"

"Of course."

"What did you and Nara do?"

"We would just get coffee or watch a movie."

"You two were never romantically involved?"

"No, never."

"Did you ever touch her?"

"I hugged her but I've never done anything untoward."

"You were a teenager yourself when you saw her back then right?"

"Yes."

"So you had hormones which tend to make your mind a little fuzzy when it comes to what you really want. Especially when you are alone with such a beautiful young girl..."
