Chapter Twenty-Three (m) - A Valid Argument

The 10 minutes passed way too quickly. Jaehyun went outside the courtroom for as long as he could.

He needed he fresh air.

Taeyong was instantly beside him and they managed to find a private area where the guard could embrace his boss.

Sicheng is going to be picking he next witness. Jaehyun doesn't know who it will be.

It'll either be him or Nara he is assuming. He taps his foot rapidly as he gets anxious.

The judge enters the room and everyone quietens yet again.

Sicheng stands and walks over to the jury.

"A father payed someone to rape his own daughter" He begins but is interrupted by Jungwoo.

"Objection."

Sicheng looks toward the judge who waits for Jungwoo to continue.

"The previous witness never said who payed him. We cannot assume."

Jaehyun can feel his stomach in his throat. This whole thing is making him feel sick.

"The jury won't take into consideration the statement which just came from the plaintiff's side" The judge announces to the room.

Sicheng shakes his head slowly as he thinks of who he will call to the stand next.

"I'd like to call out a witness."

The judge nods in approval and the lawyer turns to face the crowd.

"Jung Nara, please come to the stand."

Nara slowly stands and walks over to the seat. She swears an oath before Sicheng turns to face her.

"Tell us, was your father abusive to you as children?"

"Not when we were young. Only after mother became sick. He began to..." She trails off, raising her gaze to meet her brother's.

Jaehyun nods firmly, silently signalling that it's okay to reveal their past.

"He began to hit him. He started to beat Jae."

"Did he ever harm you?" Sicheng queries and she lowers her gaze as she recalls the painful memories from a few years ago.

"If I got in the way he would try to hurt me but Jae always protected me. He always took the beatings instead."

"Would you doubt it if someone told you, your father had payed someone to harm one of his children?"

"Honestly it wouldn't. He doesn't care for us. He only cares for himself. We don't matter to him."

Mr Jung is doing his best to look mortified by what his daughter is saying.

Anyone with half a brain would be able to tell that he is faking the expression.

"When Jaehyun took over the company, how did your father treat this?" Sicheng asks and Nara scoffs, shaking her head.

"He acted all supportive on TV. In all the interviews he acted like the perfect father. Yet behind the cameras he has always been trying to force Jaehyun to carry out what he wants to happen. It's as though he doesn't realise that he is no longer in charge. He hates how he can't control the company anymore and takes it out of Jaehyun. Constantly telling his son that Jae is ruining the company. He even told him that our mothers death was his fault."

"No further questions." Sicheng smiles encouragingly at Nara before taking his seat once more.

Jaehyun takes in a deep breath as Jungwoo rises.
