Relief washed over me as I saw him dancing quite seductively with a beautiful red-headed girl.
The burning of resentment was overpowered by seeing that he was alright. He wasn't dead. Or injured. Just doing typical guy things.
I didn't know what to do now. I felt awkward standing near the entrance of this bar; like an outsider.
Walking over towards the two, I noted the way Rowen was glaring at me.
As soon as I came close, he turned to me, furious.
"Why the hell are you here Marnie?" He hissed.
I flinched.
"I was making sure you were okay." I hissed right back, agitated. Why couldn't he just let me care for him for once.
"I don't need to be watched over like a little kid!"
His hands were in fists. He was angry. I stepped back, trying to avoid getting hurt again.
The redhead from before stepped in, pushing Rowen back slightly. Her hand touching him irritated me.
"Can I ask, who are you? You interrupted a very important session."
I snorted. "Yeah, a fucking makeout session. And I'm Marnie. A girl who has the privilage of staying with Rowen." I smirked. She looked jealous.
She turned to Rowen, furious. "Your taken?!" She screeched.
He threw me a menacing glare before turning his attention to the redhead. "No. She's a nobody.. some girl who needed a place to stay. She has uh.. problems."
That hurt. He went as low as calling me a nobody, then saying I had problems?
I stepped forward to give him a piece of my mind, when another guy came up, wrapping his arms around the redhead.
"Babe, what's going?" He asked, mumbling into her neck.
"This girl came in here and interuppted our makeout session." Wow, this girl had no shame. She just told him that she was basically cheating on him.
He stopped. "What?" His eyes glanced from me to Rowen. "You were kissing my girl?!" He was talking to Rowen.
He smirked, crossing his arms. "She kissed me. You obviously weren't enough for her." He sound smug.
The boy lunged at Rowen, and they fought. The redhead stepped back, enjoying the fight that she started. I stood, yelling for them to stop.
I tried to pull Rowen from the boy, but the boy ended up punching me in my nose. I fell back, groaning.
"Stop." The girl said. They both looked at her, eyes angry. "Sawyer, just go. I'm done with us anyway." She said. The boy, Sawyer glared, before getting up and walking out briskly.
Rowen got up, and I saw the scratches and bruises criss-crossed his face. His eyes landed on me briefly before going back to the girl.
"What's your name?"
"Gwen." She said as she slipped a piece of paper in his pocket and gave him a kiss on the cheek before walking out, flipping her hair over her shoulder.
"She's amazing." Rowen muttered.
I glowered. More like disgusting and rude. She wasn't good for Rowen, I knew it.
He finally noticed I was in pain and came rushing to me. "You alright?" He asked, one hand probing my body for injuries.
I nodded. My nose throbbed and felt brusied. Nothing major.
"Can we just go?" I was ready to leave this stupid place.
"Yeah, yeah." He helped me up, and then walked out the bar. I ran, not wanting to spend another minute in the wretched place.
I caught up with him. I was out of breath. Keeping a steady pace with him, I looked at him, studying his expression.
"Are you okay? From the fight?"
"Yeah."
"You sure? Those wounds look like they hurt."
"I'm alright Marnie, okay?"
"Really? You look like you're limping. And you might have a concussion."
I rambled relentlessly, until he turned to me and ran a hand through his hair.
He leant down and pressed his lips to mine, silencing my talking. It was quick, no tongue, no hands, no sighs or moans, no spark of electricity. But it was exhilarating and incredible.
He pulled back. His lips red. Swollen.
"Now will you shut up?"
I nodded, the lingering of the kiss leaving sensations and thoughts swirling in my mind.
"Good. We need to get home to get your ass patched up. Again."
I nodded mutely again.
Something in the back of my mind told me that we shouldn't have kissed. Because it might lead to trouble, which meants complications which meant fights, confusion and worst of all, heartbreak.
