Chapter 11

Kayley had managed to control the room full of people whilst keeping an extra eye on the royals; she was thankful that she had the respect of everyone or else the whole thing could have gone completely different. After ten minutes, the doors to the throne room opened and in rushed the other musketeers, as well as their Captain; they greeted the young woman who explained what she had done which Treville praised her for, as well as how she believed that the King had been poisoned but the royal doctor was now seeing to him. "Athos, Porthos and Kayley, you three search the Palace whilst Aramis, D'artagnan and I stay here and protect everyone" the man instructed earning nods; the three left as the others made their way over to the royal family to explain what the plan was. Kayley explained that whoever was doing the killings wasn't using a gun, most likely to keep quiet "then we need to be more careful" Athos stated "search your end of the Palace, if you find nothing then meet back at the throne room" they agreed on that for a plan before splitting up. Kayley was in charge of searching the Queen's quarters, as well as the gardens. After ten minutes of searching in the Palace, she made her way outside and began to look through the garden...which included the area that was like a giant maze. Half way through the maze, Kayley heard footsteps running towards her; she jumped behind a bush and hid, drawing the dagger from her boot, prepared for anything. After a minute, she saw a pair of legs; she lunged out of her hiding spot and tackled the person to the ground, soon holding the dagger to their neck. But once the eighteen year old saw who it was, her eyes widened in shock "wha?!...Derek?!" she exclaimed earning a small smile "hi" the man that she was practically sat on was the King's cousins son...who was meant to be safe in the throne room!! The two stood up as Kayley returned the dagger to her boot "what the hell are you doing out here?! You're meant to be in the throne room, safe from whoever's killing people!!" she exclaimed, anger and worry clear in her voice; Derek held his hand up "I'm sorry, I saw you enter the garden from the window in the throne room and thought you might need some help" he then stepped closer and leant towards the girls ear "and I saw someone run out of the Palace a few minutes after you, they're somewhere in this maze" that made Kayley's eyes widen. "Shit" she mumbled "I need to get you back to the throne room now!!" they began to walk towards where they knew the entrance was when they came to a harsh halt. Not far from them, a hooded figure was stood with a large knife in their hand; Kayley gently pushed the twenty year old behind her as she stared right at the person. Suddenly, they pulled out a gun from behind their back and aimed straight at the girl; the two's eyes widened as the teen girl grasped at Derek's hand and began to run away, hurrying through the maze in hopes of losing the figure. Annoyingly, whoever was under the hood managed to keep up with the two, shooting at them as they ran. Kayley wanted to fight whoever it was then and there, but her main focus and aim had to be Derek and getting him to safety. They managed to escape the maze and rushed behind a block of stone; they peeked around the corner to see the hooded figure leave the maze and look around; he thankfully couldn't see either of them and ran the other way to look. Both of them sighed of relief as they turned to one another; that was when they realised just how close they were. Kayley, in instinct, had pushed the man towards the wall, still holding his hand from when they were running; Derek, wanting to help as well, had pulled the girl towards him. They practically pressed together, just inches apart; Kayley felt her cheeks heat up a little, making Derek smile "you're cute when you blush" he whispered, not helping one bit. The eighteen year old stepped back, although she was hesitant "come on...we need to get you back to the throne room" she stated "then the others and I can go after that guy before he kills someone else". They raced towards the Palace and through the hallways before seeing the other musketeers; Athos and Porthos were asking if they had seen Kayley as she should have been back by now, as well as where the missing Prince was. "We're here" the teen called, they all turned to the two young adults "Derek!!" his mother exclaimed as she ran over and hugged her son "don't ever sneak off like that again!! Ever!!". Kayley stepped in "to be honest, if Derek didn't sneak off, I might have died" that was a shock; Treville pulled his musketeers to the side "you found the killer??" he asked the girl earning a nod "yeah, whoever it is has a cloak on with the hood covering their face, they also have a knife and a gun" Kayley explained. They decided Treville and Aramis would stay in the throne room whilst the others would go find whoever it was when all of a sudden, Derek called for the female musketeer; Kayley walked over "what is it??" she asked politely. The twenty year old just pointed out of the window; she followed the direction and saw the hooded figure, but....he had one of the gardeners!! Suddenly, the two watched as the killer stabbed the poor and frightened woman straight through the chest; their eyes widened as they pressed their hands onto the glass "no!!" they screamed in horror. Kayley thought fast and ran out of the throne room, but Derek followed as he wanted to help "Derek!!" his mother and father called, but were stopped by Treville as the other musketeers followed their younger sister and the Prince "don't worry, they'll protect him".

Kayley sped through the halls and jumped through the door; she kept running until she saw the dead body of the gardener lay on the ground. Looking around for any sign of where the intruder had vanished too, Kayley spotted him enter the stables; she rushed over, drawing out her sword and gun, prepared to fight. She could hear her brother's and the Prince not far behind her; she had heard Sarah scream her sons name so she assumed he had followed her. Entering the stables, Kayley halted as she scanned the room; all of the horses were fussy of course, showing that the killer was still in the room. "Show yourself!!" she demanded, loud and clear, but in return, the girl just heard a laugh, a males true evil and demonic laugh. The other musketeers entered the stable to hear the laugh, as well as Derek "D'artagnan, stay with the Prince" Athos ordered his boyfriend earning a nod. They searched the large stable, splitting up in the process; when Porthos rounded a corner, he saw his love lay on the floor, not moving. "Aramis!!" he exclaimed in horror as he rushed over and knelt down to the unconscious man when all of a sudden, all want black. D'artagnan and Derek had bumped into Kayley, making them both nearly getting shot by her; they rounded the same corner the bear like man had only a minute ago had; they gasped as they saw their two friends on the floor. D'artagnan hurried over and took a look at the two men as Kayley looked around, as well as staying with Derek; something isn't seem right. Suddenly, Derek yelled "D'artagnan!!" the teen spun around to see her brother be hit on the head with the base of a gun; her eyes widened when she saw the killer. Pulling out her gun at the same time as she pushed Derek behind her like earlier, she began to shoot at him; the murderer turned and ran before he could get shot. As he ran, the hood fell off and Kayley was able to see is face for a second before he jumped out of the window; her eyes widened "oh no". Due to Derek's yell, Athos had raced over to them and saw his boyfriend and brothers "what the hell happened?!" he asked as he checked on them; the Prince explained. "Athos" Kayley interrupted "he's a Spaniard" she stated; the man's eyes widened "what?! Are you sure??" he asked earning a nod "yeah, I recognised him from the battle field, one of the worst ones too" she sighed; by worst she meant for them. Thankfully, Porthos woke up but clearly had a concussion "Athos, help Porthos get Aramis and D'artagnan to the throne room, they can't fight in their condition" Kayley ordered; the man nodded "what about you??" he asked "I'm going after that guy, he's killed too many people and he's hurt my brothers" it was clear she was pissed to the max. "...Okay, just be careful" the man ordered as he and Porthos picked up their boyfriends and began to return to the Palace; Kayley turned to the Prince "go with them, you need to get to safety" she stated. Derek shook his head "no way, I'm coming with you" he stated, the teen was about to protest but the man stopped her "you need back up and I know how to fight...sort of" it was clear he wasn't going to change his mind "...uh!! Fine" she huffed "just stay close".
