Chapter Fifteen: Emotions: Skylark
Nicolas looked at Elizabeth with worry as she began to look pale. Each day it seemed to him that she looked skinnier, and he was afraid she would leave him at any moment.
"Are you sure, you want to go to the ball?" he asked her earning a glared
"Stop acting like I am made of glass...I know you are scared but please try to enjoy the last moments we have together" She said giving him a short smile making Nicolas' heart clench
"Okay," he said not wanting to talk about it and held her against his chest
"Hello lovebirds," a voice said making Nicolas and Elizabeth looked to the side and saw Skylark looking at them with a smirk
"Skylark!" Elizabeth squealed and ran to hug her letting go of Nicolas making him frown and Skylark stuck her tongue out at him
"Hello," Nicolas said to her in a soothing voice looking straight at her making her blush slightly and Elizabeth said
"You know I want you guys to be together before I die"
"Don't think like that! You are not going to die!" Skylark said looking at Elizabeth
".....At the dance I want you to enter with Nicolas can you do that for me ...please" Elizabeth said looking at them both with so much earnest that it made them groan and nod their heads making Elizabeth clap her hands and run leaving them both
"I am not trying to become a wrench and take Elizabeth away from you so don't worry," Skylark said looking at him as she was about to follow Elizabeth but felt Nicolas grabbing her by the waist and pulled her against his chest
"Don't worry I would never think of you like that." He said and leaned over her and kiss her in the cheek
"Thank you for being with her and making her happy even though sometimes she forced you to be with me," he said with hurt being in his eyes
"I didn't mean I don't want to be with you...It is just not right thinking about it when she is still here" Skylark said trying to not cry
"It's better to do it now when she could give us her blessing," He said and walk away leaving Skylark confused
Skylark has been spending time with Nicolas and began to like him as more than a friend and Elizabeth encourage the both of them to be together, but she would always roll her eyes even though she would want to be with him thinking it would hurt Elizabeth even though she would deny it. Now she wasn't sure of her life anymore since Nicolas did have a point and would prefer Elizabeth's blessing. She sighed unsure what to do and decided to go ask her mother for advice. Skylark was about to knock on the door when she heard a yell inside making her enter the room fast only to find her dad about to hit her mother.
"You bastard!" Her mother told him as she spits on his face making him hit her and Skylark felt rage running over her
"What is going on?" She said pushing her father away from her mother
"Your mother was flirting with Harvey," Her father said angrily
"Mom?" Skylark asked her shock
"It's not true I was just telling him something when your father rudely interrupted she said
"Don't you ever dare hit her" Skylark hiss at her dad making him almost slap her when Carrie push him away and punch him in the face while drawing Skylarks sword pointing at him
"Listen here bastard, you had always hit me and abuse me but if you ever laid a hand on our daughter I will destroy you and tell everyone the truth," She said to him causing him to turn pale
"What truth" Skylark said confuse
"......." As they both stood quiet Skylark decided to leave when her mother said
"Wait don't leave your father will, and we can talk"
Skylarks dad got up dusted himself and gave Carrie a quick kiss making her wipe it off. When he left Skylark's mom asked her what she needed and Skylark began to explain her situation.
"You are a bright girl and I am surprised you don't know what to do," Carrie said as she looked at Skylark with the same cold expression
"I just don't want to make a mistake again," Skylark said
"Do what your heart tells you the right thing to do. If you really love him and he loves you too then just go for it and see where the pieces fall don't be afraid of what happened before" her mother said and wink at her and she began to apply makeup to cover the bruises
"Why do you deal with him?" Skylark asked
"Soon you will know the truth just promise me that no matter what, you will always remember I always had seen you as a daughter," her mother said sending her a small smile making Skylark happy that she was about to hug her mother when her mother got up and ran to the bathroom. Skylark heard noises of her mother vomiting.
"Mother, you alright?" Skylark asked her
"Yeah...."Her mother said as she got out of the bathroom
Her mother then turned pale as she began to think, then motion Skylark to exit the door. Skylark was confused by her mother's actions of acting motherly towards her but shrug it away happy that she was acting like the mom she always wanted but felt weird that Nicolas mom would sometimes look at her with remorse or as if she was hiding something.
