Of course, it had to happen again. He never gives up, Peach thought.

The princess was sitting in Bowser’s airship as Bowser himself flew the airship to his castle. She had no idea why, despite all of Bowser’s failed attempts to keep her for as long as he wanted, he kept going after her. Hasn’t he already gotten the hint that sooner or later, Mario will come along and defeat him? Peach thought, crossing her arms.

She never bothered yelling for Mario anymore because it was pointless. Peach had memorized the routine- get kidnapped, go to Bowser’s castle, and wait until Mario comes. Still, Peach was so confused and annoyed as to why Bowser kept kidnapping her.

“Why?” Peach asked.

“What are you asking?” Bowser replied, not facing the princess.

“Tell me why you always kidnap me,” Peach demanded.

“Because I hate Mario and you’re pretty,” Bowser told Peach.

“I know there’s more to it,” Peach sighed. “You’ve kidnapped me so many times, I’ve lost count. So please at least tell me the real reason for kidnapping me, I might as well know.”

“You wouldn’t wanna know,” Bowser grumbled.

“Tell me, I do want to know,” Peach insisted.

“You don’t know what you’re getting yourself into,” Bowser replied, annoyed.

“I don’t care, I just want to know!” Peach said stubbornly.

“Look, can you go back to screaming Mario’s name even though he can’t hear it?” Bowser muttered.

“I stopped doing that a long time ago,” Peach frowned.

“Well do something, anything other than bugging me about pointless things,” Bowser said quietly. Peach was a little surprised. Bowser hardly ever lowered his voice.

“Is it a sensitive subject?” Peach asked, also slightly lowering her voice.

“Why do you care?” Bowser replied.

“Why not?” Peach tried to have a patient, kind tone in her voice. “Please tell me, Bowser. I’d really appreciate it.

“No, you’ll regret it,” Bowser said. “As far as you’re concerned, I kidnap you only because I want to marry you.”

“Why do you want to marry me?” Peach questioned.

“Because Mario doesn’t deserve you,” Bowser replied flatly.

“No, YOU don’t deserve me!” Peach blurted without thinking. She gasped and covered her mouth.

“And I thought you were actually starting to tolerate me,” Bowser muttered under his breath. However, Peach heard what he said.

“Bowser…” the princess said. “Sorry, I wasn’t thinking. Please tell me why, though.”

“Fine, but only to shut you up,” Bowser sighed. Peach was delighted, but didn’t show it.

“Thank you,” she replied.

“I have eight kids,” Bowser started.

“Eight?!” Peach gasped. “I’ve only met Junior!”

“Yeah, but he has seven older siblings,” Bowser stated. “Seven of my eight kids are boys and one is a girl.”

“Wow…” Peach said. She couldn't imagine growing up with seven brothers.

“Anyways, that’s besides the point. They don’t have a mother, but I think you already knew that,” Bowser explained.

Peach thought about what he said for a bit. Bowser’s other kids don’t have a mother, since Bowser Jr. doesn’t have one. Peach gasped, finally realizing what that meant.

“Your wife…” she mumbled.

“She died shortly after Junior was born. Of course, Junior doesn’t remember her so he thinks that you’re his mom,” Bowser explained. “After that time we were at Isle Delfino, I had to tell him the sad truth.”

“Oh…” Peach was now feeling sorry for the Koopa king.

“If you haven’t already figured it out, I kidnap you because my kids need a mother figure,” Bowser said quietly. “And I see how you’re so nice to everyone and so patient. I can’t help but think you’d be a good mother figure to my kids and Junior already loves you a lot.”

“That’s…” Peach’s eyes began to water out of sympathy. “That’s so sad!”

“This is why I didn’t want to tell you,” Bowser replied. “You’ll just feel bad for me. Pity is for the weak.”

“Thank you,” Peach smiled, despite her tears. “Thank you for telling me.”

“You’re welcome,” Bowser found himself smiling as well. “I'm gonna introduce you to my seven other kids today.”

“That's nice of you,” Peach replied. Suddenly, Bowser’s airship touched the ground.

“We’re here,” Bowser informed Peach. As soon as he stood up, Peach gave him a friendly hug.

And Bowser ended up hugging the princess back.
