Kimberly's POV
My eyes rested on the blue eyed brunette for a second longer than necessary.
I knew her..
I had seen her somewhere before....where?
"Kimberly." Keenan called, standing from his stool. Still, my gaze lingered on her for about two more seconds before I moved my gaze to him. "Maece--" He gestured for her to come closer. "This is Kimberly, my wife." He told her. "Kimberly, this is Maece O'Malley." He turned to me. "She's Andre's fiance." He told me.
I remembered.
I had seen her on TV once before moms death.
She'd been released from prison shortly before the blame was shifted to mum. I felt heat crawl up to my cheeks. I didn't know what to feel....how to feel.
"Oh My Gosh, Keen, she's so beautiful." She exclaimed when she was finally standing in front of me. I drew in a deep breath, and then focused my gaze on the ground, trying to hide the shade of pink that fought its way to my cheeks when I felt Keenan's gaze on me.
"She is." He muttered silently. If I wasn't so conscious of his presence,I mightn't have heard him.
"Hi." She stretched a hand towards me. "I'm Maece. Maece O'Malley." She continued. I looked at her for a mini second before I slowly took her hand.
"Kimberly."
"I know." She smiled kindly. "Do you mind if I call you Kim? Kimmy?" She asked. I pulled my gaze away and then drew in a deep breath. "Kimberly sounds a little too..... Formal. I dunno." She shrugged her shoulder. "Just so you know, I consider you a friend already so I can't do formal." She told me. I looked at her for a few seconds and then shifted my gaze to Keenan for a few seconds.
"Uhm --" I pursed my lip. "I think Kim would do."
"Great!" I watched her tuck some of her shoulder length hair behind her ear. "So, I know you just arrived, and we just met, but Keen told me you're gonna be here for a few days--" For a small woman, she talked really fast. I shifted my gaze to Keenan my once more and this time, our gazes met.
My breath hitched and I felt my stomach churn.
"I can tell we're gonna have so much fun together. We'll go to the beach, and the mall. I love shopping--"
"Okay, that's enough." Keenan said finally, trying to push back a smile. "I think we can talk about all these things tomorrow. She just got here and she must be really tired so--" He paused. "Paul will show you the rooms and you pick whichever one you like." He told her. She frowned. "Kimberly?" He called my attention....not that he didn't already have it. He gestured towards the door and I only realized he meant for me to follow him when he started walking towards it.
I examined him carefully.
He looked.....different.
Less intimidating without a suit.
His aura was still the same though....authoritative,demanding. I noticed him reduce his stride when we walked out through the brown double doors.
So I could catch up?
Get your head straight,Kimmy.
This time,we didn't take the same way Paul and I took earlier. I looked around in awe again as we made for a flight of stairs.
Beautiful silver chandeliers lit the room above us and when I inhaled, it smelled of roses and lily's,Cadillacs and many other flowers. A beautiful grand piano stood majestically just across the stairs.I wondered if he played.
"Are you hungry?" Keenan asked calling me right out of my thoughts. "You haven't had anything to eat all day. I'll have the cook prepare something for you. What do you like?" He asked. I stared at him for a while, watching the way his muscles perplexed through his light cotton T-shirt.
Damn it Kim,get your thoughts together.
"Uhm---" I bit down on my lower lip when we got to the last stair. "Something spicy." I said finally when I couldn't think anything up. He looked at me for a few seconds and I felt my heart skip a beat. I drew in a deep breath.
"Sure." He said finally, turning away. "Something spicy." He repeated and then continued walking. I followed behind him in silence as we passed through a series of brown doors. Finally, we stopped in front of a set of dark brown doors. I watched him reach in his pocket and then get out a bunch of keys. I watched him put the key in the hole and then turn it slowly. The door unlocked with a soft 'click' sound.
"I want to show you something." He said, almost in a whisper as he turned the knob. I watched him push the door gently and for some reason,my heart beat loudly against my check.
A feint ray of blue slipped through the moment he opened the door. My eyebrows narrowed. He walked in and I followed slowly behind him. My heart literally stopped the moment I walked into the room. It was a wide spaced room with a white sofa and a small glass table at the other of the room.
But that wasn't what pulled my attention....no. What got my attention was the wide glass aquarium occupying the opposite side of the room. I took a step towards it, and then another, watching the fishes swim peacefully inside the blue colored water. I stopped when I got to the front of the glass and then slowly reached out to touch it.
It was so beautiful.....so peaceful.
"How is this possible?" I asked, almost in a whisper, momentarily forgetting that we were in the middle of an island.
"Its Bahamas." He chuckled and I could tell that he was coming towards me. I felt a thin smile cross my face.
"Its so beautiful." I said when I felt him stop behind me.
"It is." He said.
I felt a familiar wave wash over me....a de ja vóó. Suddenly, I felt heat crawl up to my cheeks. My knees bolted and my heart beat faster.
I had no idea why I was feeling this way.
"I want you to have this." He said after a few seconds, causing me to whirl around quickly and I immediately regretted it. I had no idea he was standing so close behind me. His deep brown eyes starred into mine with heightened intensity and for a few seconds, I completely froze.
Get yourself together,Kim.
My head was screaming a lot of warnings but my eyes did the exact opposite..... Until he cleared his throat.
"I'm--I'm sorry." I pulled my gaze away, taking a step backwards as I did. I glanced down at the key he was holding out to me.
"It's fine." He brushed it off. I faked a smile as I slowly reached for the key, trying my best to keep my fingers from brushing against his. It wasn't fine.
The rapid beating of my heart against my chest wasn't fine.
It wasn't supposed to be this way.
He was only trying to be nice.
"Is--Is this--" I asked when I finally found the courage to speak again.
"Believe me,Kimberly. This place is an amazing stress reliever." He told me. I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding. "The door directly opposite this one's yours." He said and then sighed.
"You should get some rest." He said slowly. I nodded."I think I'll be here for a while." I told him. He nodded.
"I'll have the maids bring something spicy to you." He smiled faintly and then turned to go.
"Keenan?" I called softly, causing him to turn around. "Thank you." I told him. "Not just for this, for earlier, for--everything." I told him. He smiled and then walked away. I let out a shaky breath.
I was finally letting go of mums death...
And instead, I was letting myself get attached to something else... To someone else.
