Detective Jared
I shifted slightly in my seat the moment I heard the door open softly and then close. I didn't have to look up to know who it was since we practically both owned the office.
Neil was six feet seven, muscular, bearded guy... also my partner on the field.
He was a pretty cool guy and I only wished he was half as passionate about justice as I was.
I felt him move to his side of the office, his chair making loud, screeching sounds as he pulled it out from underneath the table.
"You still looking into Monroe and Co?" He said finally when he was seated. I glanced up at him, watching him take a sip from his cup of coffee.
"Someone has to. "I raised my eyebrows and then dropped them. "I mean-" I paused and then ran my fingers accross one of my braids. "It makes no sense, all these deaths around these people. It makes no sense why so many people die around them." I rubbed my temple. "And then t-there's Gloria Monroe and Isabel Grayson. Sam Levine was shot at close proximity,Neil. A-And it was a clean shot. A bullet to the head. Even if he did try to take advantage of her, there's no way she could have made that shot. I mean,it makes no sense that she called the cops to turn herself in and then shot a cop. It was basically a suicide mission. And Isabel Grayson--" I paused. "Isabel Grayson was pregnant with child. I see no reason why she would have killed herself. I see no reason why a billion dollar company like Monroe and Co would have no working security cameras on the rooftop, Coincidentally where Isabel supposedly jumped down from. It almost feels like someone is desperately trying to cover up something. And I feel like I am so close-" I closed my eyes and massaged my temple, ignoring the slight ache in my head. "So close to getting to the bottom of this. I just don't know what it is."
Neil lowered his cup and then cracked his knuckles,a worried expression on his face.
"The DNA test results from the gun came back. It had Gloria's fingerprints over it." He stated. "And Isabel Graysons death was ruled off as suicide by the judge two days ago. " He pursed his lip. "Also, you missed out the part where Sam Levine was shot in the torso first. It's not highly impossible that she was close enough to shoot him in the head afterwards since she was close enough. Plus, she did have an experience with guns." He took another sip from his coffee and then sighed. "We're all very worried about you,Jared. I think you should take a break for now and concentrate on something else. " He told me, his fingers now working on his computer. I opened my mouth to say something and then shut it.
It was pointless.
Nothing I said was going to make him see things the way I did.
Nothing I said would make him understand that pregnant women with hundreds of thousands of dollars hidden away in a safety box didn't just decide to take their own lives.
Nothing would make him understand that Keenan Monroe couldn't have just coincidentally married Gloria's daughter days before Gloria died.
Why did he keep the wedding a secret?
Why was he keeping her a secret?
Why did Gloria shoot the cop?
Who was she protecting?
Mitchelle was a therapist... therapists knew things. Why did she have to die? Whose secret did she tell?
I let out a frustrated sigh and then reached for the pack of cigarettes in my back pocket. I pulled out a stick and then reached for my lighter, ignoring Neil's burning gaze on the side of my face.
I reached for my lighter and then lit the other end of the cigarette.
Why was it so hard to connect the dots?
What exactly was I missing?
What was I not seeing? What was I overlooking?
Who was I overlooking?
I took a long drag from my cigarette, coughing softly when the smoke went down wrongly.
Whoever was responsible for this had made a fool of me for three whole years.
But what they didn't understand was that the truth could only be hidden for a period of time, but never buried completely.
#957 in romance out of 1.5million😩🙈.
Y'all I'm screaming on the inside😭.
Does anyone have an idea what's going on? Can anybody connect the dots??
Anyway, don't forget to vote comment and share.
Also, ask questions if there's something you don't understand. I don't know if you can tell but this book is gradually coming to an end.
Till next time.
Love,Chay.
