Pink Diamond finally lay on the couch, asleep. I'd recommended the option of sleeping to calm down, as it was the only way she could stay in one form even in she was overcome with one emotion. Ever since she'd seen the humans sleep, she'd tried and tried and eventually got the hang of it. I never tried. I had to keep an eye out for any of her guards that might walk into her room, requesting her, or if anything happened to her ship.
I leaned on the glass window to the human zoo. The humans moved about happily, uncaring and completely worry-free. Oh, what I would give to be like that. No worries at all, the only thought that would ever come to mind would be how excited I was to meet my mate after I'd been Choosened. They had no idea that we watched them from above, as our window was disguised by leaves and trees. We didn't have to keep it entirely hidden, they were aware they were contained, and why would they ever need to look up?
But I was a human, the first thing I'd do is pinch myself. See how fragile I am. Next, I'd probably plan out what I want to do for the short existence I have. Humans only live about thirty five years back on Earth in Sumer, but in different regions, they varied. It was interesting; the members in nomadic clans lived to only around twenty years old. Jericho was nearly the same as Sumer, and other than that, we couldn't really find any more civilizations.
The humans stopped to listen to the voice that instructed them where to go and what to do, then they began clapping and laughing. They ran to the baths and leapt in, giggling and splashing. I grinned. Such happiness lie so close to me, and the only thing separating this pool of worry and problems into their domain of beauty and peace was a simple glass window.
I felt someone stand next to me. I looked over and saw not Pink Diamond, but White Pearl. She gave me a smile, then jutted her chin towards Pink. "My Diamond does that as well. She observed others on her own colonies doing the same thing." I looked back to the zoo, jealous of how beautiful White looked. Her gown was so silky, and her hair was so perfect. But her face was more than stunning, more than any word I could think of. Her cheekbones were so defined, her eyelashes were so long, and her eyes were so shiny. They glinted off the light, as if they were gems themselves. Her own gem rest upon her chest, just like the other Pearl's. It was a foggy white, and not sparkling. Just like her Diamond.
"What are you doing here?" I asked quietly. She smiled. Yet another thing I was jealous of.
"You refuse to look upon me, don't you?" She gently touched my chin and spun my head to the side to look at her. At her stupidly perfect face... "Is everything alright?"
I looked to the ground in front of me, but she kneeled to come into my vision. I giggled, and she let go of my chin and stood straight, giggling as well. "You're just so...ah." I couldn't say that I was ugly. Which I felt I was. Even though my gem wasn't deformed, I felt like my face could be. Sure, I was elegant and could dance pretty well with the humans back on Earth, but I could never top White. She raised an eyebrow, her hands naturally folding behind her back. I sputtered at first, but got the word out. "Flawless. I guess I'm jealous of you."
"What's there to be jealous about?" Her head fell back a little, and I looked up in confusion.
"What isn't there to be jealous about? Haven't you seen yourself? How beautiful you are?"
White tilted her head. "Have you not seen yourself? I'm jealous of you, Pink! At least you have a weapon. Yellow and Blue have their own spears, but me..." She looked down to the human zoo. "I'm defenseless. There's nothing special about me, other than the fact that I am the Pearl of White Diamond, Leader of the Diamond authority. Well, maybe my smarts, but...I do not know. What's down here, again? What are these things?" She pointed a thin finger towards the leaves and humans giggling in the water.
