Narrator's P.O.V.
InuYasha proceeded towards his home at a slow pace, dreading meeting Kikyou there more for every minute that passed. The sun had set hours before, and it was just InuYasha, his thoughts and the stars in the night sky. Nobody was in sight, as most of the people who lived in the small town were either asleep or resting after a long day at work or school at this point.
In the light from the lamp outside of his front door, InuYasha caught the glimpse of a silhouette on his doorstep. "I'm here. What did you want to see me about? I thought I was just a half-breed to ya..." Kikyou remained silent as she slowly approached him before she spoke at last, "So, you do remember, after all?" she chuckled self-righteously. Growling low, InuYasha glared viciously at the girl before him, his fists clenched at his sides. "You think I'd honestly forget about something like that?!" You're far from the only person who's picked on me, and you know it... As he thought, Kikyou took slow, elegant steps towards the man she had once loved. Her expression had changed, it now looked like one of sadness, rather than mockery. She slowly reached her hands out to caress InuYasha's cheek. "I don't know what exactly you're up to, Kikyou, but you're wrong if you think that I'm gonna take you back!" At that point, InuYasha didn't care what she'd do to him.
I wouldn't get back together with her even if she so kissed me!
Think about it... another voice spoke, inside of InuYasha's mind. You've missed her, and deep down, your feelings for her remain the same...Have they changed, InuYasha? You still love her, don't you? He tried to silence the other thoughts with everything he got, but before he knew it, she was in his arms, her lips inches away from his own. How the hell did I get myself into this mess?! As his arms rested on her back, InuYasha's mind wandered off to Kagome yet again, whom he'd just left behind to come here. He'd told himself that all he would do, was tell her once and for all that their relationship was over. And yet...Why was he unable to do so?
Kagome... he thought, sighing deeply as he pulled away from Kikyou, a grave expression on his face. "Listen...I have no intention of taking you back, Kikyou...I've moved on..." although he'd thought about his past relationship with her over the summer, he just wasn't about to take her back. If he weren't in a relationship with Kagome at present, he'd jump at the chance. But leaving Kagome? It was the last thing he wanted. Because she was the only student at the entire school who had been kind to him from the start. She had tried to befriend him, not make fun of him like everyone else would. For the first time in his entire life, he had been accepted for who he is, for what he was. Kagome's family welcomed him, regardless of his appearance. I don't think it would've mattered to them if I was half demon or not...Shows what I know. Before I met Kagome, I thought I couldn't trust a single person.
"Please, I can't bear to let things remain as they are now," Kikyou pleaded, interrupting his train of thought and reaching out her hand for him to take, but he backed away. "If you're telling me the truth, then why did you end what we had together?! I thought- I thought I could trust you... Be happy with you, Kikyou! What you don't realize, is that I know why you're asking this of me! It's about Kagome, isn't it?!"
"You are mistaken...! I was a fool for leaving you without a reason, InuYasha!"
"Kikyou. I've already made up my mind," his voice was suddenly more gentle and calm as he walked towards the front door of his house. Pulling a key from his pocket and unlocking the door, InuYasha entered his home, shooting one last glance at her, "Goodnight. See ya in class tomorrow."
