Peering up towards the cloudy pastel white sky with dashes of grey paint splattered across it. The ice white specks began to be released from the clouds again, much softer this time.
The air was crisp. Almost like it would cut you in two as it was bitter cold, but had a beautiful fern scent to it.Swinging our hands gently as the atmosphere continued to grow increasingly louder, I let out a gentle sigh as I was smitten by all the beauty a small little village could offer to a New York girl.
Leading me down carefully to a little Christmas market, Blake had gently placed his hands over my eyes. Smiling at his gesture, I waited in anticipation to see what lay ahead of me. When we had stopped, He removed his hands from my eyes with a "surprise" statement that followed.
My reactions was so priceless that he took out his phone within that moment, and captured my reaction. Scanning the markets that lay untouched before me, I sprang up and hugged him while popping my foot out behind me.
I had never been to a Christmas market before, and I was quite excited to see what everyone was always talking about as they came and went within the coffee shop, I was working at back in New York.
"How did you know" I spoke as my eyes beamed with excitement and happiness. "I just guessed" he spoke carefully as he led me over to a stall which displayed hot snacks only sold at Christmas time.
The markets were all decorated with lights that flashed and danced, in a variety of colours*. The atmosphere was full of cheer and good will. From people exchanging money and gifts, to people sitting down outside a little town cafe, enjoying each others company.
It was truly a magical moment.
We had gone around the market stalls, at least three times as I didn't know what I wanted to look at. My favorite was definitely the chocolate fountain stall that gave out free candy canes to the children.
After test tasting and giving my approval of the chocolate fountain with marshmallows and strawberry's, Blake and I had eventually settled down at the little town café.
Picking up the little drinks menu, I decided to settle with ordering a white hot chocolate with candy cane sprinkles and cinnamon. As the waiter came over and placed our drinks in front of us, I couldn't help but laugh for a moment, followed by an overwhelming rush of emotions.
Looking up from his drink, Blake noticed how emotional I had become within the space of a few minutes. Reaching out to meet my hand that was laying on the table. Blake linked our fingers and began to gently stroke my hand. "Hey Ella, what's bothering you" his voice lingered with concern laced in-between his words. Wiping the tears that began to flow down very quickly, I explained as to my outburst of sudden emotions. "It's just.." I said in between quiet sobs. "Nobody" I spoke so quietly while my breathing slightly hitched.
As the time went by, Blake tried to encourage me to tell him what was on my mind. By doing this he comforted me with soothing words and held both my hands within his, still gently stroking them within circular patterns.
"Ella, you're too beautiful to cry. And please don't waste your emotions on how lovely and thoughtful this gesture was. I was going to do this whether or not I had met you up in Thornhill Hotel." he said as he lifted my chin up with his hand before wiping my cold tears from my cheeks which had a rouge tint to them.
"Come on, drink up your drink, its getting cold beautiful" he said tenderly as he placed the cup of coffee to his lips before finishing his drink.
As time had passed on, we had an interesting conversation about what we hoped to do within the future. I briefly explained how I would be graduating next year from college with my arts degree, and how I was quite excited by this. He had promised me that he would be there to see me graduate. I laughed at his gesture, taking it in that moment, as a joke ,but had a feeling he was quiet serious about his promise.

As we began to make our way back to the hotel, the snow had began to fall yet once again. Heavier than last time, but lighter than last night. "Honestly I never packed for this weather" I sighed as we carelessly swung our arms in sync. "Oh." Blake stated plainly. Little to no concern within his words. Nodding my head to his reply, he must have let go of my hand at one point without me noticing, as he had now pelted a snowball at my back. Turning around to face him with my mouth open ready to give out, I was greeted again by another one. This time to the face.
"BLAKE" I screeched at him. Furious by what he had just done. His shook face burst into smiles and his laughter dispersed within the area we were in. "THIS ISN'T FUNN-" I said as he had hit me again with another one, this time to the shoulder. Sighing in defeat, I gathered a clump of snow within my hands and roughly tried to make a snowball. With that, I pelted it back at him, but sadly missed.
"You clearly missed"
He pointed between the distance of his body, and where the snowball landed. Furrowing my eyebrows in defeat, I continued to do what I did last time, hoping to get him but, only to have missed yet once again. "Oh what will we ever do with you Ells" he joked about as he stood in front of me, studying my actions and my every move. Letting out a loud cry I began to charge at him. He noticed what I was going to do before I was anywhere near him, so he then began to run off in many different directions. Swerving all my attempts to try and catch him. "Over hereee" Blake sang. Picking up another clump of crystal snow I, roughly aimed and tossed it at him.
Missing yet once again.
Letting out a big 'UGHHHH'. Blake began to slowly trod his feet within the delicate fresh snow that was falling all around us, back to where I was. "You missed" he said sounding more worried than anything.
Closing the gap in between us, I leaned in and kissed him on his cold and chapped lips. Wrapping his arms around my waist he pulled me in closer to embrace the moment.
Just as Blake was about to deepen the kiss, I pulled away and softly whispered in his ear. "I guess I didn't miss this time now did I".With this, I could feel a smile creep on his face as our foreheads were pressed against each other. The misty frost cold breath that was being released from our noses and mouths, lingered around our heads as we stood there.
Almost frozen in time.
Not wanting any more, or any less from each other.
Breaking away he began to reach for my hand, as he did this he laced our fingers together as we began to make our way back to the hotel.
