Chapter 07
Kathy stood at the front door of Laura’s home, both Maya and she had been trying to get in contact with Laura when they heard that she had been sent home from school but had received no word as to what was going on or if she was okay or not.
She was about to head up the steps when her cell phone rang. “Hello?”
“Kathy it’s Maya, listen I’m calling to tell you that Matt ran into Laura, he says she’s alright so there’s no need to worry.”
Kathy laughed slightly. “Kind of late to tell me that, I’m already at the front of her house,”
“Oh… sorry about that.”
She shrugged knowing Maya couldn’t see it. “Meh, no skin off my back besides since I’m here I might as well talk to her, I don’t think she’ll mind. But speaking of your brother how is he?”
“He’s… he’s okay.”
She frowned. “You don’t sound like he’s alright.”
“Well…” she hesitated. “He said something really weird, something about Laura but he won’t tell me what, I think he went off his medication again.”
Kathy let out a slow breath. She knew that Maya was now alone in taking care of her brother since both parents were in England right now helping with that play they were working on so Maya would always have to make sure that Matt took his medication, it wasn’t for anxiety, both Katy and Laura knew that there was another reason, Matt would sometimes say strange things that at times wouldn’t make any sense. Though Matt had begged Maya to not go to the Air Canada Center the day of the bombing, he was practically sobbing for her to stay at home and not go; Kathy was there as well as Laura when this was happening.
Laura went over to Matt and placed a gentle hand on the boy’s shoulder. “Don’t worry Matt, Maya isn’t going anywhere, and neither is Kathy.”
“Laura!” Kathy looked at her in shock. “You’re not saying you’re going there by yourself are you? If your dream is right then today the Air Canada Center will…”
“I know Kathy,” Laura said quickly. “But I have to go, I’m part of the Gymnastics group, I can’t just not show up, besides, if I do go I might just be able to find the bomb and stop it. Even if it’s a long shot, I at least have to try.”
But even then the bombing still happened, and ever since then Laura blamed herself for the loss of those lives that died that day.
“Kathy? Are you still there?”
