It was like every day life was a piano
and you would play a soft song on that piano to represent daily life...and that song went on, perfectly, and calmly. But at that moment, as my mind slipped away, it was like the notes became high-pitched and off-tune and they began playing at inhumanly speeds and tones that should have never existed in the first place. And I screamed, because what else could I do? My nightmares were coming to life, my world was crumbling at the seems and it felt as if I would....could never be happy again.

I had never felt such grief and sorrow and utter hopelessness, and, most of all, fear. Sharp and untouched fear. Never before experienced by a one other than me before that very moment.

I sat up with a sharp gasp, my heart beating uncontrollably and sweat streaming down the sides of my face. I looked up to see everyone gathered around me.

"Bea...you ok?" Star asked, looking at me with concern in her eyes.

"That guy put you in some sort of spell." Leila said, helping me up. I was so shaky and wobbly, my knees were trembling. I almost collapsed again.

"Y-yeah..." I croaked, "Are they gone?"

"Yeah." Leila said, "We scared them off."

"They deserved it." Violet mumbled.

It went quiet for a little bit.

"...oh.." a soft voice came from behind me. I spun around to see a deer hybrid with an oversized hoodie and a necklace standing there. "Thank you for saving me...." his face was very red. "I..sorry that...you had to do all that...I was just..."

"No it's ok!" Violet said, "Those guys are jerks, we wanted to fight them

"No it's ok!" Violet said, "Those guys are jerks, we wanted to fight them."

'Not all of us.'  I thought vacuously, then felt guilty for thinking it.

"...well I feel bad. You guys got hurt because of me..." The deer hybrid spoke.

"No..really we're all ok!" I said, trying my best to be enthusiastic. I saw him smile, and it felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders, "Uh...I'm Beatrice." I said, smiling.

"Silas." He responded, softly.

"Violet.."

"Leila!"

"Starella." Star winked at him and my heart sunk. His face flushed tremendously and he looked to the ground. I realized that Star and I were both soaked.

"Well I got to get home guys, sorry." Leila said, apologetically then waved at Silas, "It was nice meeting you." He smiled back at her. He nodded, then morphed into his deer form and pranced away rather quickly. I glanced at Violet, she was wrapping silk around her fingers absentmindedly.

"I'll see you guys later." She said, and walked off into the distance, leaving Star and I.

"So..I-I guess we'd better dry off before going home." I stuttered mundanely.

"Yeah." She sighed and sat down. I sat down next to her, glancing down at her jean shorts.

"You know, you'll get a rash if you keep wearing those while they're wet."

She looked up at me with slanted eyes. "Are you suggesting I should take them off?"

"Woah!! Wha-n-no!! What are you-?! I-I-NOO! You-you-"

She laughed and punched me in the shoulder lightly, "I'm jus' kidding." My face was still hot as I forced a small laugh, but I ended up actually giggling. I sighed with a groan and laid down on my back.

"So uh...what happened with that plant guy you fought?"

"Fought? More like tried to fight...He had the element of psych. He got into my head." I said softly, "Fear has the upper hand against both my elements...there would be no way I could beat him."

"Wow.." She cooed, "You sure do know a lot about this kinda stuff, huh?"

I smiled a little bit and sat back up, "Yeah, when I was younger I was obsessed with my elements and magic and what-not. I studied it so much until I could barely forget it. If I couldn't remember something, I would freeze time and study it harder..."

Starella smirked. "So you're a timebug and a bookbug?"

"H-hey!"

"I'm just kidding!" She laughed some more and I joined her.

It was silent for a little longer, the sound of the tiny, and large creatures stirring in the woods.

"Well I guess we should start walking home. We'll be dry by the time we get there." She stood and pulled me to my feet (which were still wobbly but I wouldn't let her know that).

I agreed and we headed home, as if nothing had ever happened.
