At this time of day, everyone was still working and no one was in the showers so I spent about 30 minutes in the showers. Then I went to my hammock and sat on it. I wondered what could I do for the rest of the day.

I leaned and took my box of stuff. There I found a notebook and a pencil. It gave me an idea. I could draw something. I took the pencil and put it on the blank page. Only then I realized I had no idea what to draw. I was looking at the boring landscape of the Glade when my gaze stopped at the few boys working in the gardens. Thay were all pulling out some weeds and working really hard. It gave me an inspiration.

After about half an hour, I had drawn Zart working and beeing all really dirty and tired. I was quite proud of my drawing so I decided that I could draw all the other Keepers working as well. I walked around the Glade and tried to find the best spot from where I could draw them.

I was so deep in it that I lost the sense of time and almost missed lunch. At lunch break, I took my plate and found a nice spot at the edge of the woods. I sat down my back against a tree. I looked at all these boys next to the Homestead. They were all having conversations, laughing, well... just having a good time. It made me happy how they all still could find the happiness in a place like this.

I ate my lunch thinking about the people who put us here and what could be their reason for locking us up here. After I had eaten my lunch, I continued drawing.

"What are you doing?" suddenly someone said from in behind me.

I screamed and quickly pressed my notebook to my chest, hiding the drawings. I looked back and sighed. It was Newt.

"Shuck, Newt. You scared me," I said punching him in his leg (I punched him in the leg because he was standing but I was sitting.)

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. Can I see what you were doing?"

"Well... I... um... I...nothing," I smiled awkwardly.

"Don't be shy. Show me, Elle!" he said sweetly.

I had already drawn all the Keepers so now I was drawing just other gladers eating, talking, sitting by bonfire etc. It was nothing really personal but I still didn't really want to show them to anyone.

"No," I said in a little kids voice.

"Let me see it," he said smiling and tried to take the notebook out of my hands.

After a few moments of us fighting over it he took it out of my hands. He held his hands high above my head and I couldn't reach the notebook even when I jumped for it.

I sighed. "Aghh... I'm too short."

"I think you're perfect," he said and I blushed. "So can I  look at them?"

He was still holding my notebook high above our heads so I guessed I had no choice.

"Okay..." I sighed again. "But don't be too harsh on me. I'm not a pro."

He sat down next to me and opened my notebook.

"Wooow..." was the first thing he said. "Did you really draw those? They are so shucking good!"

"Umm... yeah... thanks," I said and blushed again.

He was slowly examining all the drawings, amaze and smile all over his face.

After a few minutes of watching my drawings, he put an arm around my shoulders and pulled me closer to him.

"You, my little artist," he said and kissed me on my forehead. I smiled.

I laid my head on his shoulder. Then we talked and I felt indescribably happy.

Soon after, Alby came.

"Here you are, Newt," he said. "Come on, get back to work. The dirty toilets are waiting for you."

Newt sighed and stood up handing me back my notebook.

"They are truly amazing, Elle," Newt said. "See you later."

Then he went off with Alby.

I sat there for about ten more minutes just thinking about some random stuff. I decided that I want to do something but not drawing so I tried to think up something that I could do. I had no ideas.

After about a half an hour of thinking of what I could do, I came up with the idea of helping someone at work. I asked everyone consecutively if they need some help and no one seemed to need one so I just came back to my hammock and laid down on it.

I was so bored and I had absolutely no idea what to do. But then a memory of seeing a book in my box occurred. I grabbed the box and quickly searched for a book in it. When I found it I sighed with relief.

The book was called "Romeo and Juliet". As I could tell by description it was about a girl and a boy falling in love or something like that. It sounded quite interesting. I sat down more comfortably in my Hammock and started reading. Some of the pages were ripped off, some of the text was painted over so I couldn't read it and the book had a lot of stains on it. It was really annoying that I couldn't read everything, but luckily still most of the parts were readable.

I wondered if life out of the Glade and out of the Maze was like it was described in the book.

I spent all afternoon (until the dinner) reading. When I got my dinner I joined the table where all the runners were sitting. There were Newt and Chuck as well.

"Hi," I said as I approached.

"Hi," they all said almost at the same time.

I sat down across Newt so I could talk to him more easily. We sat at the edge of the table.

"How was your day?" I asked him. I was pretty sure it wasn't one of the best ones.

"Well... you know... cleaning the toilets and working as a bloody Slopper isn't very much fun..." he said sadly but then added smiling again. "...but you definitely made my day better."

I giggled.

A loud "Awwww", suddenly came out off all the runners. I hadn't noticed that they were looking at us. I blushed.

"You're so cute together," Minho said.

Soon after, they continued their conversations. I felt a little bit awkward. I ate my food and then I and Newt both went for a walk. We talked about some random stuff.

It started to get cold outside and I shivered. Newt looked at me worried.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"Yes," I said, "It's just a little bit cold outside."

He pulled me closer to him.

"I have a jacket in my room. I can give it to you," he said.

"I think I'm going to be okay," I said but then shivered again.

"Oh come on, Elle. Come with me."

Then we walked to his room closely side by side.

As we entered the room, it was cleaner than when I first saw it.

"I see that you've had a progress in cleaning your room. I guess the Sloppers job had come in favor for you," I joked.

He laughed.

Then he searched his closet and handed me his jacket. I put it on and thanked him. Then he searched for something else so I decided to sit down on his bed.  It was so, so soft and definitely more comfortable than my hammock so I laid down. After a few seconds, I fell asleep, not even noticing it by myself.
