Girl In The Glade/ Newt fanfiction (The Maze Runner)

Part 33

She kept screaming for about 30 seconds and I had no idea what to do.

When she finally stopped she started crying. She was pale and she looked very sad and very terrified.

I sat down next to her and pulled her into a tight hug. She turned and cried into my shoulder.

"Shh, shh Elle," I said while stroking her back, "everything's going to be okay."

Her crying slowly turned into sobs.

"Was it a nightmare?" I asked her.

"Yes," she answered quietly.

"Do you wanna talk about it?"

"No."

I totally understood her. I had had a whole lot of nightmares myself here and they were horrible. Every time I woke up screaming and shaking.

After a few moments, she stopped crying completely. I carefully laid her back on the bed. Then I sat next to her gently stroking her hair.

"Can, can you sleep next to me?" She asked quietly.

"Sure."

I laid down next to her. Just as I had laid down she quickly snuggled up in my neck and put her cold hands on my chest. I could feel them shaking a little bit. I pulled her into a hug once again pulling her as close to me as I could.

Soon we both fell asleep still cuddling.

Next morning I woke up from Chuck coming into the room.

"The doors are opening soon. I think that you both might want to be there to see if they are alive." He said sadly.

I could see that he had cried. His eyes were all red and puffy. Oh, that poor, poor kid. How could someone be so cruel to put this poor soul in a place like this?!

"Yes," Newt said, "we'll be there in a sec."

Chuck left the room.

Newt was still hugging me when we woke up.

"Good morning," he said as he let me go and stood up.

"Let's hope this is going to be a good morning," I said and got out of the bed too.

We both still were in our yesterday clothes and we didn't change into new ones. We just got up and walked out of the room not saying another word to each other.

We silently walked to the Doors where we stood with most of the Gladers and waited for the moment when they would open. I felt really stressed and I was scared about what we were going to see when it would finally happen

We stood there for about 5 minutes before we heard the loud metal-against-metal sound which meant that the doors were opening. This made my heart beat even faster.  

As the doors slowly opened we could see that there was no one there. Chuck, who was standing right beside me, sighed sadly.

"I knew they wouldn't come," Newt sighed and turned to walk away. So did all the other boys except Chuck.

I started to go away to and then turned to look at Chuck who was now looking at all the boys leaving. It broke my heart how sad he looked.

"Come on buddy, they are not coming, it's not worth it to just..." I started to say before I saw something move in the maze. It was a person, no there were 3 people. They are alive!

"Oh my god," I whispered a tear running down my face.

Chuck then turned to look at the Maze and whooped loudly.

"Hell yeah!" He yelled jumping up and down with excitement, "YES, YEAH!"

Boys also turned to look and all of them started yelling from happiness. 

Minho and Joanna were carrying the unconscious Alby.

Some boys ran inside trying to help them and when they got back in the Glade they laid Alby down on the grass. It looked like Alby only had one small cut. It confused me how could he be unconscious just from one small cut.

"What happened?" someone asked and Minho told us the whole story while some med jacks took Alby to the Homestead. He told everyone how when he and Alby had found the dead griever It had suddenly jerked up and attacked. Alby was stung but luckily they had been able to escape but still, unfortunately, they didn't make it in time to the gate. When Joanna had run into the maze she had not only helped to save Alby and survive the night but also killed a griever. A fact to which everyone had gasped in shock.

Afterward, Minho and Joanna were fed and they slept through the whole day. They also injected Alby some kind of serum that must recover him.

When Minho and Joanna woke up Newt held a gathering where how he told me, they talked about what to next.

While the Gathering was held I went to see Alby. He was sleeping peacefully and after watching him for a little while (nothing weird, just wanted to make sure he was okay) I was just about to leave when he started shivering rapidly. He started screaming. A scream that sent a shiver down my body. He then suddenly grabbed me by the hand were strongly and looked into my eyes as if he wanted to kill me.

"You..." he said angrily before grabbing my neck.
