Girl In The Glade/ Newt fanfiction (The Maze Runner)

Part 31

Elle

I woke up from Newt lightly shaking me. I opened my eyes to see him looking at me.

"Good morning, love," he said as I opened my eyes. "Today's a big day. I have a surprise for you."

"What surprise?" I asked. I was excited.

"You'll see later. Now get dressed and then we are going to go."

"Go? Are we going outside?"

"Yes, I got permission from Jeff to take you out for a walk..."

"Yessss," I cut him off jumping up from excitement.

I quickly got out of the bed.

"Hey, love, not so fast. Be more careful!" He said, "now get ready. I'll wait for you in the hallway."

"Okay," I said.

Then he kissed me and went out into the hallway.

I put on some clean clothes, put my hair into a ponytail and left my room. Walking was still a little bit hard.

Newt was waiting for me right next to my room.

Just as I walked out of my room Newt took me by my hand and we started heading out of the Homestead.

I had no idea where we were going but I knew that Newt had planned something because of the way he acted. He looked a little bit nervous but excited at the same time.

It took us about 30 minutes to get to the place.

As we were coming closer, he told me to close my eyes. And that's what I did. I closed my eyes and let him lead me.

"Okay we are here," he said after I had walked about 5 minutes with my eyes closed. "You can open your eyes now."

I opened my eyes. In front of me, I saw a blanket on the ground with a whole bunch of pillows. In the middle of the blanket was a small table on which stood some pancakes and tea. 

I looked around and saw us standing right next to the edge of a small cliff. I could see all over the Glade. It was a beautiful place. Seeing all of this actually reminded me of the first days I arrived here when I hid on that tree more than one time and could see all over the place too. A single tear ran down my cheek remembering that but I quickly wiped it away.

"This is amazing," I said as I turned to look at Newt, "How did you find this place?"

"Well, I was walking around the forest one day and came across it and..." 

Newt said something else but I wasn't even listening anymore. I was concentrated on the pancakes standing in front of us. I was REALLY hungry.

"Are these pancakes?" I asked cutting him off. I don't even know why I asked that cause I already knew.

"Uh... yes, these are pancakes. I asked Frypan to make them for us today. We've also got some jams and chocolate."

"Sounds good," I said and felt my stomach rumble.

"It looks like you're hungry, love," Newt said grinning. I guess he had heard my stomach.

"I, um... yes," I said and let out a shy smile.

"So let's sit down and..." I sat down before he could finish his sentence.

I did it even faster than I had expected myself to do it.

"Okay," he said and sat down. He let out a chuckle. "Bon appetite."

Then we started eating. This was literally the best meal I've ever eaten. Well, the best I could remember eating. The pancakes were perfect and the fact that I was eating them alone with Newt made them even better.
