A soft cool breeze billowed into the master bedroom and caressed Rey's sleeping cheek delicately as if a feather had kissed her. She did not stir from her deep sleep, she only turned her body closer to Ben's sleeping form.
They had been on Naboo for three weeks now in a self imposed exile with Lira. Three days after their arrival, Ben and Rey had taken vows before the gods as a clergymen presided over a small ceremony on the shores of the lake with Lira, J5SO and R2D2 as their witness. Ben had opted for simple black robes he had stored away long ago in the wardrobe of the master bedroom, long forgotten that he had filled the space full of beautiful dresses that he had hoped to see Rey in some day and filled the drawers full of tops and trousers knowing she preferred to be able to move her body. There was not a shortage of cowls either. However, being himself and slightly lacking in experience of the seductive and romantic arts, he had flamed red at the thought of stocking up on ladies' undergarments. He had surprised Rey in having gone to a jewellers at the nearest town to have two silver wedding rings made: they had used a piece of wire that Rey had ferried from a mechanism that had long been wrecked by a porg nestling in the workings of the Falcon. He had chosen a simple design on the rings knowing Rey wouldn't be expecting them and when they had been presented before the clergyman to be blessed by the gods, Rey had been nonplussed. Ben himself had been equally astounded when Rey had met him at the shore in her sky blue dress that she had wore on the day of Leia's funeral procession. His eyes had glinted with awe at how radiant she was and how undeserving he was to have Rey and Lira in his life... To call them his family!
As they slept now in their bed, calm engulfed them where the war between the First Order and the Resistance could not touch them. Nor could the politics of the Galaxy. They had spent the evenings discussing how to stop Hux and the Knights of Ren after Lira disappeared to bed. But today, something had been off. Rey had felt weary and grew irritable distancing herself from Ben and Lira whilst he sat with her and taught her calligraphy.
The calm that enveloped them dissipated and Rey suddenly became restless and her dreams filled with darkness. It was cold and petrifying, more devoid of warmth than she had ever felt. Six black clad figures were huddled in the vacuum of darkness, terror and cacophonous screams echoed around the void, rivers ran red with crimson blood. The entirety of Rey's soul shivered and her core wanted nothing more than to run in the opposite direction. Except, there was no where to run. The figures prowled around her, stalking as if she were a Taunton and they were wampas waiting to strike their kill. Their breaths were modded, emotionless through their masks hiding their identities. The leader moved towards her and striked.
Rey jolted up from the sheets. A sheen of sweat glistened on her tanned skin as she panted for breath, hyperventilating until she calmed. Rey ran her fingers through her damp hair drawing her knees up to her chest. It felt so real, the darkness that shrouded the Knights, the screams. It was worse than any mental torture she had had from Snoke. Rey tilted her head to face Ben but he was still sound asleep, his face showed his candid vulnerability and ignorance to the dark nightmare Rey had just experienced.
The sound of the door creaking open startled her and the room filled with light. A silhouette appeared on the floor and Rey scanned her eyes up to behold Lira stood in the doorway clutching her Wookie doll. Rey pulled her finger to her lips and hushed Lira removing the covers and wondering over to Lira and ushering her out the doorway closing it behind her. Lira's eyes glistened with tears and her face was stained with them. "What's the matter, my little Teedo?" Rey said in a hushed tone kneeling down to her daughter's level.
Lira sobbed before flinging her eyes around Rey's neck clutching to her for dear life. "I had a nightmare." She wailed.
"What happened?" Rey asked rubbing her hand up and down Lira's back whilst her other smoothed down her hair soothingly offering Lira solace.
