“Dee? Dee? Please wake up! Somebody help me!” I heard faint screams and from what I could tell it was Jay. My eyelids still felt heavy but I could make out the sounds around me. I sensed another presence beside me of what I assumed was a lifeguard. I drowsily shook my head to let him know that I was conscious. “What is her name, sir?” “Diana.” “Diana, I need you to open your eyes for me. Can you hear me?” I slowly nodded and tried once more to force my eyes open, which they finally did but things still seemed blurry.
I felt a sharp almost burning sensation in my leg as my vision cleared and I saw that the lifeguard was treating my leg. I cringed in pain and Jay gave me his hand to hold which of course, I probably squeezed the life out of but he didn’t seem to mind. “Jay?” I heard a familiar voice. “What the hell happened?!” It was Zayn and boy he did not sound pleased. I saw the boys run over to me and crouch down beside me.
“Are you okay, love?” Liam asked gently holding my other hand. “I, I’m f-fine.” I managed to choke out. “Clearly not. Your ankle is bleeding terribly.” Lou had a horrified look on his face. “And why are you wet? No. You didn’t go into the water did you?” Niall asked confused, he knew the fact that I can’t swim.
“You idiot! Did you do this to her? She can’t swim!” Zayn said angrily, he looked as if he was going to lunge at Jay. “I- I didn’t know…” Jay said softly turning to me. “You didn’t know? You didn’t know?! You could’ve asked her!” Lou shouted at him as if he were a six year old. “Lads, just ca-” Liam tried to say but was cut off by Harry. “No, Liam.” He said standing up.
“You need to leave. You need to get as far away as you possibly can from Dee, do you hear me?! Ever since you’ve been around, terrible things have been happening. I knew you were gonna hurt her. We knew you were gonna hurt her. And we were absolutely right! Look at what you’ve done, Jay! Take a good look at Dee because it’s the last you’re ever gonna see of her!” Harry’s tone was accusing and rough, his eyes were so intense it almost scared the pain out of me!
“What the hell do you mean?! If Dee wasn’t as upset as she was with you guys she wouldn’t even be in the situation that she is right now!” That’s the first time I’ve ever heard Jay raise his voice. The most furious look crossed Harry’s face as his nostrils flared and his eyes widened. “No Harry. Stop!” Niall shouted as Liam let go of my hand to help Lou and Zayn hold Harry back from pulverizing Jay, who was almost going to lunge at Harry as well.
“Stop!!” I called out raising my head a little which in turn made me dizzy. The boys’ attention turned to me. “P- please j-just s-stop.” I stuttered resting my head on the sand as tears began to flow down the sides of my face, I tried to stop myself from crying feeling insecure about seeming weak, so again I swallowed hard and bit my lip. “Dee, I- I'm so sorry.” Jay leaned down again, he look as if he was going to cry as well.
Would he actually do that? Would he cry for me?
“Jay, I really think its best you leave.” Niall said, I couldn’t believe his tone. It was cold and harsh much like the glare he was giving Jay, which was completely unlike Niall! Jay turned to me and I nodded, slightly smiling to let him know that he should go. I didn’t want there to be any more trouble, especially because of me. Plus I knew if Niall was angry that meant that this was really bad and five against one didn’t really seem like good odds for Jay.
He obviously didn’t see it the way I did and looked hurt as he nodded back and slowly walked away, giving the boys one last glare as he did so. The life guard who weirdly enough didn’t seem to be bothered by the commotion finally spoke after bandaging my ankle. “Diana, do you know the boys?” “Yes, they’re in the same hotel room as me.” I said weakly.
He then nodded and continued to give Zayn and Liam instructions on what to do with me. I couldn’t help but notice the fact that the usually cheerful and happy Harry that I knew, now seemed angry and distraught, running his hands through his curls in frustration as Lou tried to calm him down. Niall who sat beside me, held my hand carefully in his and as upset as was, still put a smile on his face giving me comfort.
The boys helped me to my room without a word. They made me sit on the bed as Liam handed me what I assumed was pain killers, which I really needed. But what I needed most was a big hug, a warm comforting one. As these thoughts ran through my mind I got exactly what I wanted. A hug. Surprised, I looked upwards to see that it was Harry who was hugging me. I hugged him back tightly. “Don’t you ever, ever do that to us again, okay?” He pulled away slightly, showing me his cheeky smile.
Now, this was the Harry that I knew.
I pulled him back into the hug holding him even tighter this time as a lump formed in my throat, tired of always trying to hold back my tears I simply just let them flow. I’d seen a side of Harry that I never want to see again, who knows what could’ve happened to either him or Jay?! “I won’t, let it happen again, I promise.” I whispered.
“Oh, I see what’s going on here.” I heard Lou say. “GROUP HUG!!!” He shouted loudly as I got tackled by four more boys. I giggled as I attempted to hug them all back. "Guys. I. Can't. Breathe." I choked. "Oh right, sorry." Zayn giggled too. "How's your leg feeling?" Niall smiled at me. "Much better, still hurts quite a lot though." I responded. "Do you want to tell us what happened? You don't have to if you don't want to though." Liam said. "I will, but you guys have to promise that you won’t freak out and get angry or anything like that, okay?" They nodded in reply. I told them everything, making sure that they understood that what had happened was an honest mistake.
"So he had to cut the bracelet we made you?" Niall pouted. "Yes, I'm sorry guys. I know how much it meant to you, it meant a lot to me too." I sighed. "Alright, well all that's in the past now." Liam looked towards the other lads whose frowns turned to smiles. "Yeop and I think that I can smell food in the future!" Niall grinned as we laughed. "Why are you guys laughing, I'm seriously hungry. Can we order room service or something?" Niall asked reaching for the phone. "Sounds like a plan, Niall." We hummed in agreement as he continued to order almost everything he could see on the menu.
The boys and I enjoyed a good meal, chatting and laughing and even though I looked happy on the outside, I was actually just muddled with mixed emotions on the inside. I can't just brush off what happened today, I got into my first serious fight with my best friends, and without trying to be to overly dramatic here, I almost drowned and now have my ankle in a bandage, lastly I got to see a whole new side to the boys and Jay. Anything could've happened today, everything could've gone miserably wrong, not that the situation I'm in at the moment is perfectly right but, I'm just thankful that everything didn't go as wrong as it possibly could've.
