Terra
I froze when I saw him. Derrick. What was he doing here?
I walked to Gemma and clipped her leash onto her collar. "What are you doing here?"
"Well hello to you too." Derrick smiled at me.
I went to say something but shut my jaw instead. I turned on my heel and walked away. Derrick caught up.
"Terra, talk to me."
"I did. I asked what the hell you are doing here?" I snarled as I quickened my pace.
"I'm here on business." Derrick answered as he tried to keep up.
"There's no fancy restaurants out here. And no one here will pay your prices." I threw over my shoulder. Gemma struggled against the leash as I pulled her along. Then I abruptly stopped and turned to him. The Cottage.
"You stay the fuck away from that restaurant!" I snarled at him. "You don't get to touch it."
I pulled Gemma's leash and started walking.
"What? The Cottage? What's that got to do with you?" Derrick swore as he followed.
"You are not buying another business and having me there. I will not do what we did the other year!" I thought I had gotten over it all, but upon seeing him again, my anger flared.
"It's none of your business what I buy. If I want to buy The Cottage, I will. If I want to keep you there, I will." Derrick snapped.
"Stop following me!"
"If it's the only way I can get to talk to you, then I will follow."
"That restaurant is not for sale." I gritted through me teeth.
"Well, actually, I have a meeting with the owner this afternoon."
I paused in my tracks. A smile came to my face. Derrick sounded pretty sure of himself. I turned to him, gripping Gemma's leash. "Are you sure?"
"Yes."
Those eyes. Those dark eyes. "Because the owner isn't in all weekend."
"They've made an exemption for me." Derrick flashed his smile. I rolled my eyes and tugged on Gemma's leash again. Now he was just irritating me.
"Come on Terra." Derrick pleaded. I crossed the road and kept walking, ignoring his pleas.
"I have an offer they can't refuse."
I turned back to him, walking till I has in front of him. Gemma pulled out of my hand and ran across the road as Derrick and I stood in the middle.
"The Cottage is not up for sale. The owner isn't seeing you."
"I know you cook the food." Was his smirk even more handsome? No, Terra, concentrate.
"Most nights, no." I shook my head. A small smirk on my face. "I'm calling you out on your bluff."
"How do you know if I'm bluffing?"
"Because, you're getting cocky. And it's not a if. You are bluffing."
"Tell me why you think I'm bluffing? That I'm not going to buy where you work. Again."
"Because I won't accept any offer from you." I snarled as I tried to walk past him. Derrick grabbed my arm.
"What?"
I turned back at him. "Because I'm the owner!" I snatched my arm out off his grip and stormed over to Gemma. Then suddenly, I was yanked back. I landed with a thud in to Derrick's chest. I heard the screeches of tyres as I looked at the car that nearly hit me.
I waved and yelled out sorry to the driver and turned to Derrick. I pushed him off me and went to Gemma.
I stood back up from picking up her leash and straightened myself out. "The Cottage isn't up for sale, Mr Caine." I snapped as I walked past him.
I went down a block and turned to make sure he wasn't following me. I quickly started jogging again till I got home and went inside. I closed and locked the front door, then leaned my back against it and slid down onto the floor.
It's been a year. A year. I said to myself as fresh tears came to my eyes.
Now I know why Gemma was acting weird last night and why she ran off earlier. She could smell him.
Gemma licked my face and I threw my arms around her and cried in to her fur.
Terra's dream is in jeopardy
Will Derrick force her to sell?
Terra mantra was time will heal wounds, but she doesn't feel it now.
