I moaned as I fluttered my eyes open. It hurt to breathe, my throat felt so scratchy. I looked around my surroundings.

Why was I in a hospital? I frowned as I looked at my hand. I could feel a dull pain coming from it, all bandaged up.

I remember hurting it and holding it. But why?

Oh yes. The fire. My restaurant! Oh God!

Derrick walked in then.

"Hey!" He smiled at me. "Don't talk. Your throat will be sore."

He sat on my left side and took my hand. "You had me so worried." Derrick whispered as he kissed my head.

How is he in here? I thought I had strict orders to only allow Ellie in here.

Ellie!

Derrick got me a drink of water as I sipped on it. "They took you off the oxygen about an hour ago."

I looked at him confused. Oxygen? But I felt relieved to be alive. I didn't perish in the fire. I was rescued.

I tried to talk but Derrick stopped me. "The doctor said not to talk just yet."

How the hell am I suppose to communicate then. I motioned with my hand for a pen and paper.

Derrick rushed out off the room and returned with my requests.

I took the pen and paper and realised my right hand was bandaged. Oh great. I placed the paper on the table and tried writing with my left hand.

Anyone else?

Derrick shook his head. "Just you."

A wave of relief went through me.

The Cottage?

Derrick looked at me with sympathy. It was gone. My hard work perished. I felt so sad. That was my baby. I guess I was wrong, it could break my heart.

I put the pen down and gave Derrick a small smile.

"You're alive. That's all that matters."

I nodded with him. He is right.

"Ellie will be back in a couple hours. I'll let her know you're awake."

I nodded again as I picked up the hospital plastic cup. Derrick looked at me and I saw the worry lines on his face. I wanted to say I'm okay, but it stung so badly when I tried earlier.

"Get some sleep." Derrick said as he squeezed my hand.

I looked off in to the distance out my room window. I didn't feel tired. But my eyes still fluttered shut.

I heard the noises of shuffling and hushed voices. I opened my eyes and saw my mum.

I went to say hello, but it still hurt. I smiled at her instead. Dad and Ellie came in with Kayla. Kayla ran up to me and hugged me.

"We didn't wake you, did we?" mum asked as she kissed my forehead.

I shook my head. Honestly, the nurse woke me just before they came.

"I'm so glad you're okay." Mum cried. I wanted to comfort her but all I could do was grab her hand.

"The doctor said she shouldn't be talking." Ellie warned our parents. "She'll be fine." Ellie smiled as Kayla sat by my feet.

I nodded at them.

"She just has to rest her voice?" Kayla asked. This was more complicated then she could comprehend.
