Chasing Demons

Chapter One

Present day
Saturday, March 28, 2020

Lennie had been up since 10 am doing chores throughout the house. At noon, he went into the bedroom to wake up Liam.

"Wake up baby," he said as he opened up the curtains and crawled into bed next to Liam.

Liam groaned and covered his face with a pillow.

"The kids are spending all day at my brother's house," Lennie seductively whispered into Liam's ear.

Liam moaned and rolled over onto his stomach.

"You know what that means," Lennie said, "we get to spend the whole day alone together."

Liam didn't respond.

"Come on baby," he begged as he ran his hand down Liam's body.

Liam rolled onto his back and grinned at Lennie who was on top of him smiling. "And what exactly do you have planned for today?" he asked with a sleepy voice.

Lennie smiled and headed downstairs to make breakfast.

Liam got up and jumped in the shower.

"Knock Knock," said Lennie 30 minutes later when he finished making breakfast.

He walked into the bathroom, opened up the shower curtain and said, "Breakfast is ready."

Liam got out of the shower, wrapped a towel around his waist, and kissed Lennie.

Lennie laughed, "Come on Cactus Face I put on a fresh pot of coffee."

Liam looked in the mirror and rubbed his 5 o'clock shadow. "I need to shave."

"Come on breakfast is getting cold," Lennie begged.

Liam dried off and tossed on a pair of sweatpants and then followed Lennie downstairs.

On the kitchen table, there was bacon and scrambled eggs with syrup — Liam's favorite.

Liam licked his lips as he sat down.

"You're weird, I hope you know that," said Lennie.

"What?" asked Liam as he stuffed his face with eggs.

"Never in my life have I met somebody who puts syrup on their scrambled eggs."

"Don't knock it until you try it," said Liam as he put some eggs on his fork and shoved it in front of Lennie's face.

Lennie took a bite. "I'm not a fan," he said as he shook his head after he swallowed.

"Suit yourself," said Liam with a shrug as he continued to stuff his face.

The rest of the day Liam and Lennie snuggled on the sofa in the living room watching America's Got Talent. They loved to laugh at Simon Cowell's remarks and the appalling auditions.

Both of them ended up falling asleep. Liam woke up when he heard his phone go off.

He answered it without checking the caller ID. "Hello?"

"Moreo gets your ass over here." It was his boss. "We have a case."

"But it's Saturday," Liam whined he hasn't had a weekend off in over a month.

"Well, unfortunately, bad guys don't take the weekends off."

Lennie groaned.

Liam rubbed Lennie's back and lowered his voice, so he wouldn't wake up. "What's the case?"

"An adolescent boy was found yesterday afternoon in Abingdon Virginia. He's in the hospital. The doctor says it looks like he's been physically and sexually abused, starved and kept someplace cramped for several years."
