Tammy drove in silence behind Leroy and Tommy. Thoughts were spiraling throughout her head.
She sometimes pondered if doing this job was even worth it. Is it really worth tossing her life away just like Leroy to save others?
Being the only female agent on the team, she got treated differently. None of the other guys ever appeared to notice, but she did.
Tammy loved her job, but she just felt like she wasn't a good enough agent. Was she even helping anyone? Did she just get this job so she could prove to herself that she was needed or was she using it to focus on other people's problems so she could avoid facing her own? She really needed to deal with her own issues before she could deal with anybody else's. But was she going to throw those five years of arduous work away? She had to go through hell just to get on the team. The death and violence around her disturbed her, and no matter what she did, danger would inevitably hang in the air.
She turned on the radio to try to get out of her head. They were talking about the boy who was found. And they started saying that the only reason the FBI was called on the case now is because a white boy was kidnapped.
Tammy shook her head and turned it off.
Why did people continuously have to make everything about race? Why were people hurting others? And what makes a person snap like that and decide to hurt people?
She never understood.
And she never will.
