Nathan sat in the corner for what felt like hours, or perhaps even days.

A gloomy light lit up the room as Nathan heard the man open the latch and walk down the steps. He was holding a metal cup.

The man walked over to Nathan and sat on the edge of the mattress next to him. He extended the cup towards him. Nathan didn't take it.

Then the man took a sip of the liquid and extended his arm towards him once more. Nathan took the cup with both hands and drank some. It was water.

When he finished drinking the man took the mug out of his hands and set it on the floor.

"Why are you doing this?" asked Nathan, his voice quivering.

The man held a finger to his mouth. "Shhh."

Tears welled in Nathan's eyes. The man wiped them away. His hands were rough and his touch repulsed Nathan.

Nathan thought the man was going to hurt him again, but instead, he picked up the cup and headed up the stairs before closing the hatch and turning off the light.

Leaving Nathan there, alone and terrified.
