Dan woke up, his head was pounding. He has had migraines before, but never one this bad. He knew for a fact that he couldn't go to school.

Phil would just have to hang out with someone else today.

Except for not even five minutes after Dan woke up, there was a familiar knock at the window.
Phil.

"Dan? Are you awake?" He called out "It's a school day-"
"Phil go away I'm sick" Dan replied, trying not to cry in the pain.
"Let me in," Phil said softly, Dan obliged.

\/\

"Do you need anything?" Phil asked Dan
"I would love some water, and a nap, and some panadol"
Phil's face was struck with fear.
"Not for that- For my headache" Dan sighed. He wanted to laugh at how dorky Phil was, but it hurt too bad.
"Okay- Do you have anything to blackout your windows?" Phil sat on the end of Dan's bed, worried.
"No, but my dad has some cardboard in his office? You could try that?"
"I'll be back in just a tick-" Phil got up and walked softly out of Dan's room.

Dan sighed, wiping a tear from his eye due to the unstoppable pain in his head. He couldn't think or do anything aside from hurt.

When Phil re-entered the room, he didn't say anything. The only noise was socks against the hardwood floor, and Dan and Phils breathing. Which was starting to sync up. Phil placed the cardboard over Dan's windows in silence, before leaving a glass of water and some panadol next to his bed.

Phil kissed Dan's head, "Have a good nap, yell if you need me" Phil smiled "I'll be doing homework in your lounge"

Dan sleepily nodded and whispered "Thank you" his voice croaking.

When Dan woke up, he drank the water and took the panadol. His headache was still extreme, but he could at least talk and most importantly, he could think.

Think about how nice it was that Phil Lester kissed his head and spoke so softly and was so nice. As always.

"Phil?" Dan called out as loudly as he could, worried Phil wouldn't hear him.

"Good afternoon" He smiled. "I have almost finished all my homework" Phil slowly approached Dan's bed "How're you feeling"
"Ow, but less ow" Dan smiled "Thank you for being so nice"
"No problem" Phil giggled. "I brought you my favourite book from the library in case you needed something to read"

Dan looked at Phil, he was smiling so softly, his pink lips perfectly turned at their corners. Everything about Phil Lester was perfect, which only made Dan's insides bubble more.

"Could you read it to me?" He whispered, barely audible.
"Of course, silly" Phil sat by Dan's torso, opening the book.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

"I haven't read that before" Dan smiled, as Phil began. The time on the clock was 12:05 pm

"Once there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. This story is about something that happened to them when they were sent away from London during the war because of the air-raids."

\/\

"Chapter Four, Turkish Delight" Phil read "Turkish Delights are my favourite sweets of all time ever"
"I've never had one" Dan replied softly
"I will make you some, one day" Phil smiled "Promise"
So Dan and Phil shook hands.

And it was set that one day, Phil would make Dan some Turkish delights.
A dumb promise, probably, but a promise nevertheless.

\/\

"Phil- It's almost 5 o'clock. My dad will be home soon" Dan mumbled "He won't be happy you're here without his permission"
"I understand, bye Dip" He smiled as Dan got himself out of bed.

They walked to the front door.

"Bye Dip" Phil hugged Dan softly.
"Bye Pip" Dan replied, hugging Phil a little tighter than Phil was hugging Dan "Thanks for hanging out with me"

"See you, King of the Daisies" Phil giggled
"Until then, King of the Daisies" Dan replied, bowing to Phil.

\/\

"Your school rang me up from work" Dan's dad sighed
"I had a really bad migraine" Dan replied "It's still really bad- but it's better"
"You could've called my work"
"I'm too short to reach the phone"
"We need to move that down-"

Every conversation with his dad meant nothing. They'd always somehow link back to either work, moving the phone or Dan's mum.

Dan didn't know much about her, despite how frequently she was mentioned. All he knew was that she was "Rich, paid off the entire mortgage" but also "A bitch- wasn't ever home" Which Dan found ironic since his dad was never home either. But that's the way of the world.

You never notice how little your parents are together until one is buried "6 foot under" and you're forced to only be with one all the time.

Dan's mum died when Dan was only four, it was six years ago. He didn't have very many memories of her, but from what he could tell- she was cuddly and soft and smelled like roses.

Roses were beautiful flowers. They were the flowers of love.

\/\

"Goodnight, Danny" Dans dad laughed, pulling Dan's duvet over him "Have a good sleep, have beautiful dreams and keep them"
"Goodnight Dad" Dan smiled
"If you have a bad dream, you know where to find me" He closed the door.

\/\

Phil was running just ahead of Dan, laughing, skipping, jumping like it was nothing.
Except it wasn't nothing, because if it was nothing then it wouldn't have been so obvious.
If it was nothing, then Dan wouldn't feel the dread.
If it was nothing, Dan would feel nothing.

Phil kept jumping and skipping and spinning around, not really being aware of his surroundings.
He kept jumping and skipping until he was stopped.

The car was a black Jeep, it was moving extremely fast. It didn't stop for Phil, the same way it didn't stop for his mum. Yet again, Dan survived when the person he loved died.

\/\

Dan woke up tangled in his sheets, crying. He needed a hug. He needed a Phil-Lester-Bear-Hug.

Dan pulled all his warmies on and shuffled out his window.

"I'm going on an adventure" He whispered, walking through the night.

\/\

"Phil?" Dan knocked on Phil's window. It was an easy access because Phil lived in a bungalow.
The window creaked open
"Dan? Nice to see you" Phil giggled quietly. He was reading.
"Why're you awake?" Dan asked as Phil helped him inside
"Why're you awake?" Phil replied, raising his eyebrow at Dan.

"Bad dream. Needed a hug" Dan mumbled quietly
"Aww" Phil walked over to Dan, hugging him, running his hand through Dan's hair. "It wasn't real" Phil cooed in the softest voice Dan had ever heard.

And they stayed like that for a while.

Because that was safe. That was warm. That was young love, unbeknownst to them at the time.
