"Sadie," He reached for my hand. I pulled it away. "Are you okay." I didn't know what to say. Everyone has a reaper. The further away it is, the longer you have to live. Everyday it inches a little bit closer, but it is always there. Except for mine, which disappeared yesterday. I took a shaky breath.
"I just...I just thought...I just thought he was back." My shoulder sagged. No one's reaper has ever disappeared before, they're not supposed to. What was going to happen to me?
"Sadie it's okay, go sit down. I'll call you when I'm done with the hotcakes." Ethan grabbed the spatula and went back to work while I retreated to the couch. I pulled the blanket back over me. Reapers were not supposed to disappear. When you're born your reaper is far away and from that time on it starts to move closer. Sometimes the movement is very slow, a couple inches a year but other times you might look up and your reaper is standing in front of you, face to face. The things you do also affect how much and how fast it moves. My uncle confessed that when he first started smoking his reaper started to gain speed. Drunks always report getting behind the wheel just to find their reaper sitting in the passenger seat next to them. They're a sign that death is upon you, they help you know what decisions to make and what is right from wrong. Psh I bet Ethan has seen his multiple times. People say you never touch your reaper until you die. My reaper disappeared yesterday, people keep telling me oh that's normal or it'll come back but I can just feel that his presence is lacking. You can feel when your reaper is no longer there, and I feel it right now. I flipped through the television channels. I grabbed my phone off of the coffee table. I scrolled through the notifications
