A BOOK'S THOUGHTS

I live in the verse of a poem
And play in the lines of a story
I walk in the shoes of a character
That travels through the pages
Of the novel you're reading now

I hold my breath
When you stop reading
My heart stops beating
When you lay me down
Will you spare a moment
To sit and read again

My pages now left unturned
Lie closed upon your window cill
Turning yellow in the noon day sun
Waiting patiently to be opened
Gathering dust as each day passes

Will you ever read my words again
And follow the lives of the people within
A story of lovers and the secrets they keep
Heartbreak that follows
When love grows cold
Or will their ending be unknown?
