AUTUMN LEAVES

Autumn leaves adorn the ground
In shades of gold and brown
A hint of dew from the misty morn
Lingers on falling leaves
Grey clouds hover above the trees
And whisper of cold and winter freeze.

Birds fly south to warmer winds
And squirrels scurry across the fields
Burying nuts for the lean winter months
Animals of every kind look to the skies
They know it's coming
The sinking sun and long dark nights
A time when nature rests and waits
for that first spring flower
and melting snow
