2420AA,Havillah marveled at her hands that were still glowing. Truly she had not thought this possible. That it would work again without the emollient and yet, here she was rebuffing the very ideas and beliefs that had once held her back from performing such a feat. As her hands continued to glow she found that her vision as well had also improved. She could tap into the Other and could see straight into Selene's inner body just like she had done with Killion when she was healing him.
Not many knew of this. She had stumbled upon the secret as she went among the many the scrolls that Elder Lionel haf forced upon her to peruse on his behalf. His laziness and arrogance had eventually played out to her advantage. What she was doing was a marriage of her First Virtue and the Second. Something that her mother had told her about before telling her to keep it all a secret. Especially from her own mentor and his ever watchful eyes.
Not many would understand. Those had been Tamaars words. That one who had such a weakness with the First could do so much with the Second. It was a thing that would astound many and like with human nature, for that was what they all were stripped of all their Virtue, the Great would come to fear her like humans feared the unknown, and through that persecution would find its way to her, not that it hadn't already done so.
Havillah had not understood back then, but looking back now, she could see how true her mother's sentiments were and now, as she did the impossible and her mind was opened, she took in the landscape of Selene's body and gasped.
"What? What is it?" She heard Killion question beside her, but her mind was too occupied. So much that speech was not an option especially now that she did not have the emollient to anchor her.
Selene's body was dim, she noticed. Much more dim than it was supposed to be and where every part of her body should have been aglow, illuminated by the very energy and light that fuels every part of a body, dark voids and pockets seemed to be forming and growing by the minute. They began from the tip of her hands, the soles of her feet and where Havillah searched for a pattern she found that she could not find any.
What was she to do now?
Selene was not dead, that much she could tell from the constant beat of the woman's weakening heart. She was barely alive though and Havillah knew that if she did not hurry and do what it was that had brought her there, this woman who only seemed to be sleeping would fade away and become as good as dead having been dimmed out of her own earthly husk.
"What is she doing here!" A voice surprised her despite having expected it from the moment she set foot inside the Hub. Still, it was amazing how much she had been able to do before word got round to bring in the woman's interference to her work inside the clinic.
"Calla... Calm yourself." She heard Killion say.
"She may be just the only hope that is present for your mother. You know that we have tried everything. Everything, but it doesn't work. Let her try please," the doctors came in as they attempted to persuade her from wreaking havoc and vengeance on her. Even through this Havillah's eyes did not open. She could not afford to do so and risk losing her focus. As it was, without her emollient her grip was rather slippery and with that came the fear that she could loose her hold resulting in a delay that could very well mean a fatal ending for the woman that was lying beneath her hands.
"Calla... Please," Killion tried again. It seemed that they were struggling to restrain the woman from getting to her.
"She did this and you knew it! And yet you allowed her to come here?" Calla's voice broke like she was about to cry, then the sound of footsteps as her whimpers were carried away from the room.
"Go after her. We will remain here with Miss Havillah." The doctors told someone who she assumed was Killion . For a moment, he seemed to hesitate as he made the decision and Havillah could only imagine why. On one end there was her safety and on the other, a childhood friend that needed his comfort.
Her safety. Havillah frowned and for the first time since she arrived there she found herself wondering if she should really be worried for her safety.
"Don't worry. Even if she was able to, I doubt that she could do any real damage to your person." the voice reassured her.
"How totally reassuring. As it is the woman already detested me and now you had to pull this stunt to capture my attention?"
"Come on... You should give me one for originality. I can't stand that you also are mad at me."
"Me also?"
"Just kidding. I always follow through with the laid out protocols."
"You..." Havillah started to protest but was cut short by the voice of Gabriel as he tried to intervene in a rather awkward situation.
"You do not have to. I'll go instead ." he offered. He must have come in with Calla. Havillah surmised, or in the period in between. Probably to stop her from murdering her before she could even heal Selene.
More hesitation and finally, she heard Killion speak.
"It's okay Connors, I'll go."
He must have nodded as a heavy sigh was heard from Havillah's side even as his presence lifted. The presence of the man who had sat by her all this while as he extended his protection towards her. He had sought her out, brought her here and now was seemingly displeased by the fact that he had to leave her alone and presumably unprotected. Even as she refused to allow herself think about it, what this all meant to him and to her, Havillah forced herself to focus back on Selene and her own Virtue which she had just then infused into her veins and was now seeping in into the body of a still sleeping form of Selene.
As the Virtue flowed, the woman's body glowed, alight with an ethereal light that was the product of her Virtue, and wherever the light touched her, the dark voids dissipated, bringing back to life the river that had once gone stale and stagnant within her body. As her heartbeat began to steady, a little gasp emanated from the body and Havillah became aware that the woman had just come awake.
Quickly she withdrew her hands and stepped back, even as the doctors zeroed in on their patient ready to attend to the now conscious Selene.
Slowly, Havillah withdrew from the room and in the flurry of activities and the excitement that followed Selene's waking up, she stepped back and took the opportunity to flee the scene.
Unnoticed by anyone, she skinned back into the waiting room. Killion's family was there but in the excitement, their attention was also drawn to Selene's hospital room. Subtly, Havillah took in the waiting and noticed the balcony on the room opposite the waiting room outside.
No one would see her. She hoped.
It was the only way, she told herself. Haddening her resolve, she lifted off from the ledge and floated away in the morning breeze to leave the Hub undetected.
She was not afraid, no, but remaining there and allowing Calla to get a swing at her was neither wise nor was it at the top of her list of things to do. Despite what that voice had said, she did not want to risk harming another human or the drama that was sure to follow if that ever happened.
"Where is Havillah?" Killion asked as he walked back in to the clinic having stepped away to comfort Calla. He knew what she wanted he could not offer her. No, not in the way that he had been able to do once before. It had not been easy, but eventually, he had been able to help her see his reasons.
She had seen it yes, enough to let her calm down and was no longer as hysterical as she had once been, but who knew how long that would last? With Havillah still around, anything was possible. Calla could easily revert to her old anger and with her insecurities which stemmed from the fact that she saw Havillah as a challenger, as another dominant female, her jealousy would only serve to fuel the remaining embers into another raging inferno.
He could not help her though and he hoped that she could finally see that it was not Havillah's fault. He could not become what she wanted him to be and this was not just because things had changed between them. He now had more responsibilities and in addition to this, he himself could no longer understand his own feelings and what they were really trying to tell him.
"I... I... I..." Gabriel stuttered as he looked around and tried to explain his situation .
"We saw her run off..." his mother interjected as she and his grandmother came inside the clinic.
"That was not running!"
"Mother!"
"She was hovering! I saw it with my own two eyes!"
Killion sighed as he tiredly rubbed his sleep deprived eyes, settling back on a clinic's sofa. He was exhausted as he had hardly slept a wink with the way that things were that week. Only his suit was holding him up and now that Havillah had gone again, he felt quite weary.
What was he to do now? He sighed with his whole body. Yes, Selene had woken up, but he could not tell if Calla would continue to seek her vengeance. Maybe it was better this way. Maybe she would now calm down for the sake of peace.
However, even as he thought so, he doubted it. Calla had never been one to forget things and where she had more than enough cause to exact vengeance, she would hit back. In this case, it was Killion's responsibility to make sure that she did not harm Havillah despite how hard Havillah was making it for him to protect her.
"She will be fine." Gabriel attempted to comfort him.
"And you know this how?" the man could not help the snide reply. He was tired and frustrated and the temptation to take it out on the junior officer was regaling.
"I just know it. I can feel it in my bones." Gabriel replied. " Plus she has that barrier. I am sure it will keep her safe." Killion could not argue with that. Therefore, he let the argument go. For now, disaster was averted and he also needed to rest. After that, he would have to go and find her and hopefully, the two women would allow him to iron out the matter for good.
