Killion left the meeting with the Mayor of Denevieuh while deep thought. On one side, he had managed to iron out and even create some semblance of diplomatic relations. What bothered him though was this terror. The was also the issue of the blood in the town square and Havillah's involvement as evidenced by the blood on her robes. It was gone now courtesy of what they called 'new glory'. He had heard the girls whispering and had put two and two together even as Havillah continued the healing process.

Another matter that bothered him was the relationship between the mayor and Havillah. He had heard him apologising but what for, the mayor refused to disclose now that he had verified that Havillah was not his spy. Had there been an altercation? That blood, whose was it? If Havillah was at the centre of it, did it mean that she had been accosted and ended up hurting someone?

He was doing it again. He scolded himself. Defending her without even knowing the facts. Calla had been right, he was blind to everything where Havillah was concerned. Even now, with the evidence at hand, the first thought on his mind was about how she was accosted. Could she not have been the aggressor?

It made him sick to imagine her as such. For it pointed out the fact that he had been the fool that had allowed her to trick him and now, she was probably doing the same with this mayor.

"Are you okay captain? " Gabriel approached him.

"The mayor has allowed us to camp in the orchard outside the western gate. We are not to interfere with his citizens though. Make sure everyone is made aware of that. "

"What about them? "

"I am not sure about her living arrangements but for the time being we can assume that the Great will stay with us."

Gabriel nodded. He was still concerned though, seeing that the captain's mood was rarely sombre. What had happened to make him seem this way? He thought as his retraced all their steps. Earlier that night, in the woods, he had seemed okay. When had his temperament changed? When had letting the mother dragon handle everything turned to carrying the whole burden on his very human shoulders? He sighed. He was glad to see Havillah though, even though she did not seem that happy to see them. They had brought Calla with them, so it totally made sense why she would avoid their group, but still, why did she have to leave without even a goodbye?

"Aren't you going to say something?" he asked looking to where Havillah was.

For a moment the captain remained quiet. He was looking at her, Gabriel realised and then his eyes hardened.

"Not now, I am sure they have a lot to talk about among themselves." he said before turning to guide their entourage out of the mayor's compound.

There was definitely something that was wrong with his captain and Gabriel turned to Calla to shed some light on his behaviour. After all, they had known each other the longest.

"Hey," he whispered as he walked up beside her. "What is wrong with him?"

She turned to look at him and then at the man in question and the woman had the audacity to huff at him before looking the other way.

"Come on, tell me. Aren't you worried about his sudden mood?  I thought you were in-"

"Don't you dare say it! "

He smirked.

"Don't I dare say what?"

"You know what you wanted to say." she hissed.

"I was going to say that you were in the same neighbourhood." she gave him a look that made it obvious that she was very disbelieving of him. He did not care. That was the whole purpose of this. To dig up information and have a laugh or two, all at her expense. After all that was the nature of their rivalry. "Weren't you? I thought you grew up together?" he continued to pull her leg and she finally gave in.
