Peridot drummed her fingers on the counter to the tune of the music in the computer store. She hated working late at night; mostly because no one really came, and she wanted some sleep. At around 11:00, she decided to head home. Since her apartment was only a few blocks away, she just walked through the dark, empty night.

She fumbled with her keys exhaustedly, all the while thinking I'm so damn tired. The door to her apartment creaked open. Peridot closed the door behind her and slumped into bed, too tired to undress.

The sunlight pierced through the curtains, almost blinding Peridot. She sighed and reached on the table next to her for her glasses, then placed them on gently. She had school that day, not only that, but the first day of senior year. Peridot finally managed to get ready and out the door, then walked the few blocks to her high school.

Peridot arrived at the huge brick building, not wanting to be there at all. She reviewed her schedule silently in her head. 1st period tech ed, 2nd period advanced algebra, 3rd period English honors, 4th period lunch, 5th period history, 6th period biology honors, 7th period athletics. Suddenly she stopped, baffled. When did I sign up for athletics? Whatever, too late to change it now. Peridot walked the short hallway to her tech class, then math (which was all the way in the next building and up the stairs), then English.

After English, it was finally time for lunch. Peridot found a shady, secluded spot outside and sat down. So far, she only liked her tech ed class, especially since she knew a lot about that stuff. She quietly hummed along to the music from her headphones. Suddenly, a tall girl with short blue hair plopped down a few feet away from her. Peridot was slightly taken aback, and immediately stopped humming as her face flushed red. Who is she?
