Recca Hanabishi, a boy that lives in the modern world strives to be a ninja. Because of this, he often gets into fights mostly with his rivals, Domon and Fuuko. If his opponent can defeat him, he will become their own personal ninja, so of course, everyone jumps at the chance to challenge him (and get defeated). One day, when he was eating, he saw a girl, surrounded by children. Later that day, he saves her and it turns out she has healing powers. The girl heals him and tells him that her name is Yanagi Sakoshita. When he takes her to show her fireworks, a woman named Kage Hoshi attacks the two. Recca battles her but she doesn't fall for Recca's ninja tricks. She also keeps asking him to bring out his fire, but unfortunately Recca doesn't know about it. When she threatens to kill Yanagi, his flames burst forth. After that, Kage Hoshi retreats and Recca pledges to Yanagi that he will be her own personal ninja.
