ELLIES POV:

Tucker peered over the dashboard and groaned. "Can't we get a break?" He muttered.

"Guess not," I responded.

He gazed at me from under his thick eyelashes, "that was rhetorical."

I shrugged my shoulders. Tucker didn't look too good, he was sweaty and red and still breathing heavily. He must've suffered a nightmare. He was observing the town and I was observing him and all of a sudden I was moving forward and brushing a stray piece of hair from his sweaty face. He looked at me and started moving towards me slowly.

Of course nothing is perfect and a minute later a zombie slammed it's hands on the hood of the truck. We both jumped back from each other and I fumbled for the keys and entered them into the ignition.

"What the hell, what do I do? We need to figure out fast." I screeched looking at the hundreds of zombies now making their way towards us.

Tucker grabbed my waist and lifted me over him, he then slid into the drivers seat. "We have to go through them!!" He yelled while punching the gas. Damn he was sexy when he took control.

Zombies fell under our truck and got crushed by the wheels. For the first 200 feet we cut through them easily. But more and more ran out of stores and around us. Tucker punched the gas again and instead of lurching forward we stayed where we were. I frantically tried to look through the windows and see what was wrong.

"We're stuck," Tucker said calmly. I looked over at him and he sat back in his seat. He almost looked at peace with everything. Somehow his calmness transferred to me and a minute later I was sitting back in my seat, almost lounging. We had given up.

A bloody hand punched through the windshield and it was almost over. His head came through next, shattering the glass all over us. He lunged at me and... BANG! Blood splattered on my face and a lump of meat fell into my lap. Gunshots were going off from every direction now and I was so shocked I couldn't move. Apparently Tucker was too because he sat beside me with the same stunned look on his face.

"MOVE, WHAT DO YOU THINK YALL ARE DOING?!" We heard a mans voice yell at us. We looked over to where the voice came from and saw a face pressed against a glass window of a store. He frantically waved his arms signaling us to make our way towards him. Tucker swung his door open and grabbed my hand. Together we ran towards safety, every zombie threatening that got shot down a minute later.

Breathing heavily we were bombarded by questions the minute we entered the store. "Who are y'all? What are y'all doing here? Where are y'all going? Are y'all stupid?" Three other people had now made their way down from the roof from where they were shooting from and stood stock still staring at us.

I was the first to respond. "My names Ellie and this is Tucker," I gestured towards him, "we're going to Texas and this is the way the map said to get there was." I didn't bother answering the last question, obviously we were.

No sane person would sit there and let those creatures get them. I was doubting my sanity right now.

The man who had let us in huffed at us. "Y'all are crazy sons of bitches, I'm Harley." He said holding out his hand. Me and Tucker shook it and he proceeded to introduce us to the other three people. "This is my wife Deb, and my cousin Olivia and John, we met him on the road." We shook each of their hands respectively.

"Thank you for saving our life's, we owe you," I said.

Harley rubbed his beard absentmindedly, "It's what any good man would do."

Tucker nodded in agreement. "Where are y'all headed?"

"Texas too, me, Deb and Olivia are from there, we happened to be vacationing in Washington when all of this started. Been making our way there slowly ever since," Harley answered.

This sparked Tucker's interest. "I heard there was a safe zone in Wimberly, Tx. Do any of you know anything about that?"

Deb stepped forward, "we havnt heard anything about a safe zone but we are headed to New braunfels, which is only about a 30 minutes drive away from Wimberly. If you go to New braunfels with us first, we'll go to Wimberly with y'all."

Harley looked at his wife sharply. Obviously not agreeing with his wife on her proposal to us. Deb glared back at him and finally he broke, "yes we would be happy if you would travel with us," he said.

"That would be great," Tucker and I both agreed.

What are we going to do about that?" Olivia piped in pointing outside of the shop. Zombies were everywhere.

Everyone gasped and looked at all of those creatures banging on the glass front of the store hungry for us. "That won't hold long, we need to go now," John spoke up. Everyone agreed.

"Our car is just out back, we were driving behind the buildings hoping the majority of the zombies wouldn't notice us. The only reason we're in this store at all was to scavenge a little, thank god we were though or y'all would be dead." Tucker and I agreed with Harley.

"Will your car hold all six of us?" I asked.

"Yes, it's a van. We like all the extra room," Deb said.

"Okay then let's go group," Harley said and led us to the back of the store, "looks like all the zombies went to the front so this should be easy."

Still we opened the door with great caution and rushed outside. John and Harley had their guns raised and Deb and Olivia had knives in their hands. Tucker and I hadn't grabbed anything, and we had left our guns in the truck.

We marched to the van and piled in, Harley in the drivers seat and Deb beside him. John and Olivia sat in the second row of seats and Tucker and I were squished into the very back.

I had been this this group for around an hour and I already could tell that Harley was the one in charge. I liked him and everything but I had always had a problem with authority figures. Someone got a little bit of power and decided they were the coolest thing since sliced bread.

"You know, we never did get the supplies we were looking for," Olivia piped up.

"Holy cow I didn't even think about that," Harley replied, "next store we see, we're stopping. We need food."

My stomach growled at the mention of food. Dang, I was starving. "Agreed."

We drove for what felt like hours. I dozed off and fell into a restless sleep. I woke up only when I heard someone calling my name. My head snapped up from Tucker's chest and I winced at the circle of slobber on his shirt.

Oh my god. I had slobbers on Tucker's chest. What was I doing sleeping on his chest in the first place?!

"Ellie, you okay?" Tucker looked at me worriedly, "you look like your about to have a panic attack."

I forced a small smile, "I'm okay. What did you need?"

"Harley said that there should be a grocery store somewhere up ahead. Are you up for a run?"

I nodded.

We sat back in the car and waited for Harley to stop.

I still couldn't believe I slobbered on his chest.
