Cedric awoke in a jail cell. He looked down to see he was wearing a tattered green tunic and brown trousers.
'What the hell happened to me,' our hero thought. 'One minute I was going strong the next minute I'm here in a freakin jail cell!'
Just then a guard walked in carrying a tray with food on it. He was dressed in all black clothing.
"Eat this prisoner. An don't try to escape because if we see you outside this cell we won't hesitate to kill you." The guard spat out the last two words, then tossed the food tray into the floor of Cedric's cell. It landed with a clang, spilling over the cup of water. Cedric quickly sat it up before all it was empty. The guard sneered at the boys misfortune then walked away.
Cedric quickly looked at what he had. On the platter there was a load of bread, venison, leek and a potato.
He wolfed that down and the water soon followed. Well, he was fed and full. But now he needed a way out of here.
"Unda Flammas." He whispered, but nothing happened.
"Damn," Cedric cursed. "The cell bars must be blocking my magic. Now what?"
Just then he heard footsteps coming toward
his cell.
"Hello Cedric." The new guard said.
He looked about twelve, so he was younger than Cedric, and he wore dark blue armor.
"Zack.... What happened to me?" Our hero asked.
Zack was an old friend of Cedric's before he lost his memory. He was one of the apprentices who was with Xavier when they found the mage.
"Xavier knocked you out." Zack explained." Him and the other assassins are heading over to Sor'real to take over the castle and kill the king. They don't have any horses and they have to go the long way because of the large number of guards surrounding the castle. It'll take three days and so far it's only been one."
"Zack let me out of here now." Our hero pleaded.
"I can't... You know that they'll kill me."
"If you don't let me out they'll kill a whole village."
"Oh well they're assassins, that's what they do." Zack said but he sounded like he didn't like what they were doing.
"Zack please I know you. You were never really one for killing. You're my friend Zack, please you have to let me out." Cedric pleaded.
Zack thought for a moment, looked around, then took out the keys and freed his friend.
"Zack... Thank you." Cedric said.
"Yeah yeah, get out quick though, im not sure when the next guard comes back."
"Right. But first, do you know where my weapon is?"
Zack looked grim.
"Cedric, after you passed out Xavier broke your sword into pieces... I'm sorry, it was a beautiful sword..."
Cedric was silent for a bit, then finally spoke.
"That's it, Xavier's getting what he asked for."
"Try looking in your old room for a weapon, or maybe even some clothes that work as armor too." Zack said.
"Alright, I'll try that.... Once again, thank you Zack."
"No problem... Friend. I'll see you later." It sounded like a question.
"Yeah, later.."
With that, Cedric ran at full speed towards the second floor.
He was just heading past the kitchen when a guard stopped him. He fumbled when he walked, his eyes were droopy and he kept hiccuping when he talked.
"Ey, boy, who are *hic* you?" His words were slurred.
'Drunk idiots.' Cedric thought.
"I'm Cedric, one of the assassins, do you not remember me?"
"I *hic* heard that Cedric was aga-*hic* against us."
"Well I am not in the prison, I am walking around freely. Now are you positive that I'm against you?"
The guard thought for a moment, before passing out drunk.
"Well, that takes care of that." Cedric stated.
He started running again, passing the training hall, Xavier's office, Nathan's room, the bath house, until finally he got to his room. The mage took a deep breath, then opened the door.
Inside he found everything..... To be as he left it. His bed was messy and the blankets were all over the floor. The walls were scratched and torn, probably from sword practice. Somehow, the torches on the wall were still lit giving off little light. There were still those cobwebs in the corners of the room. In front of his bed, however, was a chest. Cedric walked up to it but I was locked.
'Where did I put that damn key?' Cedric thought. 'Oh wait, duh.'
He summoned a little flame and burnt the lock off. He tossed it aside and opened the chest.
'These... These are my assassin clothes...' Cedric thought.
Inside the chest was a tunic as black as night, with a dark, dark blue cloak. There was also chain mail, which was light and offered decent protection. There were black pants and boots and white fingerless gloves.
Cedric quickly changed into these and, just as he was about to leave, heard a noise underneath him. He bent down on the floor and started to punch it until it gave way. He fell with the floor, landing in a pile of wood.
"That's gonna leave a mark." Cedric said.
"Cedric... Is that you?" Said a voice in the darkness.
"Who's there?!" Our hero exclaimed. "Summon light, and you'll see, lad."
"Oygeta hi ri." Cedric whispered summoning a ball of light.
It lit up the room he fell in, driving the shadows off. He looked around to see who was talking, and immediately almost vomited. He never saw anything more horrid in his life.
"But... How?" Was all he could say before he puked and passed out.
