CHAPTER 4

When I stepped out of the car, I couldn’t believe we were actually here. I had always dreamt about navigating in the Seine River. It was just one of my many dreams.

The place was as beautiful as I had imagined. We were walking by the edge of the River. I saw one of the many bridges of this river, first of all, with lights which got reflected in the calmed water. The sky was getting darker and darker; making the place look better than it should be in daylight. There was a giant building just in the other side of the river. This clearly was a nice view, because it was built perfectly, with lights visible from the inside.

There was a cruise with the name Victoria written over it in cursive letters, getting filled with passengers. I just hoped we would be going in.

“Do you like it?” Nicolas asked me, getting me out of my thoughts. I looked at him and clasped my hands together, in excitement and nodded.

“I love it!” I said, jumping up and down, but then stopped. That must have been weird. My lips curled into a broad smile, when Nicolas took my hand, and led me to a little peer where everyone was getting aboard.

A woman around her forties was getting everyone’s tickets to go in. Nicolas handed them over, and we were soon going in. The cruise was perfect from the inside. It had a wooden floor. There were no walls or anything, just glass for us to get a perfect view of everything around us, even the ceiling was made of glass. Some parts of the glass were opened as windows, for people to feel the cold breeze.

I expected there were going to be just some seats for everyone and that’s it. But this was different. Some fancy tables were placed all around, with white mantles and even candles. We took our places in a table before the corner, and a waiter, helped us seat down.

I looked into Nicolas’ eyes, and smiled. “This place is amazing.” I said. He chuckled and said “Wait for the rest.”

I couldn’t wait for the rest. I was too excited for my first trip around France, which hadn’t already started, and I already loved it. It was too nice for Nicolas to arrange this date. The place was too perfect to be real.

The cruise had gotten full in a matter of seconds, and just then, the boat began to move.

“Thank you passengers, for navigating with us along the Seine River, in which we are going to see some of the 32 bridges, including the oldest one, Pont Neuf.” A woman explained in French along with the typical explanations, of what to do in case of an emergency. “We hope you can all enjoy this tour.”

Just then, a waiter came to our table, and greeted us formally. He asked us for something to offer us to drink, Champagne, we replied. He handed us our menus, and dismissed himself.

“So, do you like France up until now?” Nicolas asked me, while opening his menu.

“I love it.” I said. “So, do you live here?”

He nodded.  “Yep. I was born here.” It didn’t look like it, because he didn’t have a French accent. I looked at him and raised an eyebrow, not truly believing it.

“No, really! It’s the accent, right?” He asked and I laughed a little, and nodded.

“It’s weird because you do sound like you are from here, like you have the accent.” He said, and made me blush a little. I liked it when people complimented my accent in my French lessons. It just made me feel great. “Well thank you!”

“It’s crazy, isn’t it? Getting to meet you I mean, because of room service.” He said after some seconds, smiling. I nodded and smiled. If it wasn’t because of my shrimps, and the, uh tampon package we wouldn’t be here. I blushed at the memory. That was one of the most awkward things.
