Chapter 6 (Nathan's POV)
I watched as the boy made fun of Rayne.
"No doll-face, just thought you might need some insight to Merissa. A girl like you doesn't stand a damn chance."
I clenched my fists, about to swing, then I heard Rayne speak up
"A girl like what?" She sounded offended. Which made me even more mad.
"A freak"
And that's when my anger took over.
I took in a deep breath, and punched him in the face. It was kind of a reenactment of when Rayne punched the kid who took her sketch pad only days before.
I looked over at Rayne. Her big brown eyes were in shock. Did I really hate Rayne? She was so fucking great sometimes. Wait, what the hell? She's literally making me think stuff, that's not true. It's like she's brainwashing me with her presence.
I blinked a few times, then the boy I hit stood up
"What the fuck man?"
"That's my sister, call her a fucking freak again, I dare you"
WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST SAY
RAYNE'S NOT MY FUCKING SISTER
THE ONLY FAMILY I HAD, HATED ME!
I punched the nearest locker, so hard it hurt. What was she doing to me?
Rayne's POV (The next day)
I stayed in my room after school. Thinking. Why did Nathan defend me? He hated me. Truly despised me. I stared at the ceiling thinking.
After Nathan punched Leo, (The guy who called me a freak, we learned his name) he looks straight into my eyes, past the hurt, and right into my heart. I could never explain it, no matter how hard I tried. It was just so, overwhelming.
The thing that really weirded me out, was the fact that he called me his sister, then got pissed right after.
My day dreaming got interrupted when I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I quickly got up and looked around. I saw the shadow again. Then smelled the strong scent of Nathans cologne. I looked at where the shadow was coming from. There was a hole in between out rooms. A big hole. I pressed my head to the floor and looked through it. I saw Nathan in nothing but red boxers. He was pacing back and forth as if in deep thought.
Nathan loved his cologne. So I wasn't surprised to smell it, but he sprayed it everywhere. I stunk, bad. I'm guessing it gets his mind off stuff. If my theory is correct, it's not working very well. He looked troubled.
Then the worst happened.
He looked down
Straight at me.
I pulled my head back and jumped onto my bed. I grabbed my phone and pretended I was talking to my grandma Jenn. She wasn't my real Grandma though. She was the librarian down the street. She treated me like family though because I would go there every Wednesday, and get a crap load of books. She loved me.
Nathan burst through the door. I flinched.
"Why the FUCK were you watching me?"
"I-I, I saw the crack, and was just looking."
"You made a fucking whole in the wall to stare at me?"
"No I found it, I swear!"
He rolled his eyes and went back into his room.
I let out a loud sigh, and looked over at the crack. How did it even get there?
The next day was different. Nathan got to come back to school. He tried to not make it obvious, but he was looking after me. He would make sure to stay close.
I laughed at the thought.
I walked into the lunch room. Nathan was sitting alone. As usual. I thought about sitting next to him, but I quickly waved it away and got my lunch.
Then I saw it. The worst thing ever. Merissa was sitting with Nathan. What did I miss? I kept staring as I sat down. She was practically touching cheeks with him. He was looking away. But she wouldn't back down. He looked super annoyed. He was clenching his fists. I knew what that meant.
I was going to help him. I owed Nathan.
I got up and walked over to his table.
He looked at me with hopeful, crystal blue eyes. Nathan's eyes were super pretty. I never noticed they were blue, until now.
"Hey Merissa"
"I'm busy" she spoke snotty
"Leave him alone"
She got up. But I stood my ground. I was short for my age. About 5'6. Merissa was a good 3 inches taller. She looked down at me.
"Why don't you make me?"
"Fuck off, go be a slut somewhere else" Nathan stood up. and glared at her. She was shocked by his words. I could tell. So I laughed.
"Whatever"
She walked away. Nathan and I started cracking up. Soon, his smile faded, and he sat back down. Like nothing happened.
Later that day I was sitting in my room, I could hear Nathan's Chemical Romance. I didn't mind it, but Karen and Jason did. Once in a while they would come up and turn it down for him. I could hear him screaming. It was funny how he got so defensive.
My day dreaming was once again interupted when I saw a slip of paper come out from the crack in the wall. I picked it up and it read :
"Thanks for today
It was nice of you
Okay, bye bitch.
From : Nate."
I was speechless.
So I simply wrote
"Anything for my brother"
